AT40: Charlie Puth (5) – Week Of September 30, 2017

Hello, friends! So, after a week in which not much really happened, we certainly stepped up this week. Our #1 may be the same, but we did get a great deal of activity, mostly for the better. Also, we heading into the month of October, which means that some spooky things are right around the corner. Plus, we’re getting close to the end of the year. #1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Send My Love (To Your New Lover) by Adele (1st And Only Week At #1)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Bad At Love by Halsey (+11)

New Entrants
– To kick off this week’s new arrivals, we have more Hey Violet with their single titled Hoodie. I briefly talked about this one on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown when it made its debut. To recap, while the lyrical content isn’t necessarily the best, their vocals sound better than their predecessors, which is part of the reason why this song is more likable to the blogging community. Not much else I can say about this one. Seeing as this one isn’t gaining popularity elsewhere, it might not stay for too long, but we’ll see what happens.

– Next, we have newcomer band Why Don’t We making their first-ever appearance on the American Top 40. Enter Something Different, their single off of the Something Different EP. Now, I do like the beat here, and it has that cool vibe to it. My only concern is the song can get repetitive at times. That said, I can see definitely see myself growing into this someday.

– Lastly, we have the re-emergence of Sam Smith after three years out of the spotlight, in the form of Too Good At Goodbyes. As I’ve explained in my Hits 1 weekend countdown review, I wasn’t quite as wild about this one. However, he definitely shows that he at least has some personality going on, especially in the pre-chorus. Also, he has proven to be a good songwriter, as the lyrical content is great. Overall, it may be in blue for now, but it’s likely that I’ll have it in green soon.

I’m Way Too Good At Writing Blurbs
– As always, we’ll begin with our exits. To start, I’m shocked that Mama by Jonas Blue featuring William Singe had to leave us so soon. I thought it would stay for a least a few more weeks, but I guess I was wrong. As for the other two, I’m not surprised about Honest taking its departure since it’s been declining elsewhere, and its exit brings The Chainsmokers’ streak of big hits to an end. Say You Won’t Let Go I was ready to part with, but it did have a nice tenure and became a sleeper hit, so props to that.

– Our Top 3 remains the same, so nothing really to talk about here.

– Well, looks like this is it for Feels after that big drop out of the Top 10, what with it faltering elsewhere at this moment. Oh well, it was nice to have this song around for a while.

– The big jump from Bad At Love was destined to happen on its second week here. Although I kinda doubt this will end up big given it’s not gaining as much steam elsewhere, but I don’t really care either way.

– So, a remix to Mi Gente featuring Beyoncé came out earlier today, and I can’t say it’s any better. As much as I love Beyoncé, not even she can save it from being complete garbage. With it somewhat gaining steam, I have a bad feeling it’s going to be here to stay, so I’m preparing for the worst.

– Looks like this is the end for both Ed Sheeran songs, seeing as they’re now in the Bottom 5. I do still enjoy both of those songs to some degree, so I’ll be sad when they leave. One thing’s for sure, though: both of them will be making the Year-End list.
