Imagine Dragons (1) – Week Of October 28, 2017

Hello, fam! Welcome to this year’s edition of the Halloweekend Countdown! Spooky things awaits us this weekend, so prepare to be frightened! Anyway, Kid Kelly hosted the countdown in place of Spyder Harrison, who apparently got sick. Poor Spyder. Hope he’s feeling better. Let’s get right into the spooky business of things, shall we? #1 Song This Week One Year Ago: The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey – Closer (4th Of 8 Weeks At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Tie between The Script – Rain & Mono Mind – Save Me A Place (-12)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Camila Cabello – Havana (+13)

And No One’s Gonna Save You From The Beast About To Blurb

– So, it happened. Thunder managed to grab the #1 spot this week. Perfectly fine by me as I’ve come to enjoy this song at the moment. In fact, Thunder made it to #1 faster than Believer did, which took about 4 months for it to get there since its debut. Now the question is, how long will it stay there? Time will tell on that. But either way, I’m thrilled to see it at the top spot.

– Holding at #2, we have Sorry Not Sorry. Again, I was thinking this would be our #1 this week, what with it continuing to gain traction on most charts. Although I much prefer her other singles (Cool For The Summer, Confident, etc.), it won’t be the end of the world if Sorry Not Sorry actually gets there.

– At #5, we have Look What You Made Me Do finally entering that region! It’s good to see this one not giving up yet. Keep in mind this was #1 on the American Top 40 this week. I’m hoping the same rings true here.

– Speaking of Taylor Swift, I recently watched the music video for …Ready For It?, and…it was really cool for the most part. Taylor Swift apparently isn’t playing around when it comes to making music videos as she’s trying to step up her game big time. I’ll bet some of the other mainstream artists are jealous. 😛

Glorious back in the Top 10? Fine by me. I still somewhat enjoy this song, despite the fact that its dying out elsewhere. But I’m hoping its successor will graduate from Hit-Bound soon and have similar success like this one is having right now.

– After two weeks of doing nothing but drop, Havana made a big jump into the Top 20. I have been starting to grow into this song recently, so I’m cool with that jump.

– However, I’m not cool with Save Me A Place taking a huge drop out of the 10, especially after being so close to entering the Top 5 for a few weeks. I’m hoping it can recover from this hard fall and get back in that region soon.

Let Me Go jumping into the Top 20? Sure, I’ll take it! I wonder will it become the next Starving in terms of success? I’m hoping it does.

– I’ll admit, I laughed Kid Kelly called Sam Hunt “Sam Hunk” during his introduction of Body Like A Back Road. That said, I can’t wait for this song to leave already and stop polluting the countdown.

– Looks like There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back may be nearing the end of its tenure with that drop out of the Top 20. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

– Both Ed Sheeran songs (Shape Of You & Perfect) have swapped places with each other this week. The former looks like it’s nearing its end, while the latter is going to be here to stay for a long while.

– On the subject of drops, Rain is right back to where it was two weeks ago, at #33. Apparently, North America doesn’t really care for The Script anymore.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:

  1. \”#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey – Closer (4th Of 8 Weeks At #1)\”I also remember that because Niall Horan hosted that countdown and said before introducing Closer \”it's no surprise (that it was #1), because it's definitely the best song of the year\”. Haha.

  2. And of course, if you know me, I shouldn't have to say anything more about that throwback pick. 😀 I was at Bates Motel today (a big favorite as far as Halloween attractions go) and it played at least twice, once as I was arriving.

  3. Yep, that throwback was originally going to be my first pick on my earlier posts, but I decided to save it for later. It's the perfect fit for Halloween.BTW, have you checked out my previous posts as of late? 🙂

  4. Thank you for the kind words!I think Scott can pretty much agree with you about Dark Horse. If I recall correctly, it's one of his least favorite songs of the decade. And it saddens me so much because I really like it. :/

  5. I don't understand why people hate Dark Horse. I love the feel to the song. I wish we could have the old Katy Perry, who didn't advertise as much. I feel like there are no more recommendations I can think of. This year was really inactive. Well… at least for pop. Hip-Hop however is dominating 2017 and they actually have decent music in my opinion.

  6. I don't quite get the hate for Dark Horse either. You can ask Scott about it. He can explain it better. But yeah, I'm sad because I really like this song too. :/I do agree that there are not very many choices when it comes to new recommendations, but what I do is at least try to find something that's worth listening to, like Echosmith's new album for example. Have you checked it out, yet? There are plenty of good songs on there that would be a good fit for Hits 1 in my opinion.

  7. Well, the song has been on quite a few worst of 2014 lists, and one thing to note is that a dark horse is considered an unexpected underdog, and we should all know that Katy Perry was not one of those. The synths aren't a fun addition either, and that's before we get to Juicy J's verse where he talks of putting her in a coma. And it was the second biggest song of the year only behind Happy, and even made #100 on Billboard's Greatest of All Time lineup (but it'll be kicked off once it's updated, as Closer, Shape Of You and Despacito all take their places there).

  8. Also, hate to burst your bubble, but I doubt that Look What You Made Me Do is gonna be hitting #1 here. It fell from #4 to 25 on the Hot 100 within just two weeks all thanks to some absolutely brutal airplay drops. Looks like the callouts have been eviscerating.

  9. Yeah, I saw. Been seeing the updates on Pulse Music Boards. Very disappointing. Luckily, I review the American Top 40 also, so I'm pleased it got to #1 there.Anyway, I'm hoping another Taylor Swift song can blow up and be as big & has some longevity soon, like right now.

  10. Yeah, I did read your piece about this song not too long ago. I can see where you're getting at. It doesn't sound like Katy Perry song at all. Still, that doesn't really stop me from liking it. But to each their own, I guess.
