Hello, fam! This is the first AT40 countdown of December! We’re closing in on the end of the year. As a result, I’m working on my Year-End posts, which should be coming out soon. Macklemore filled in for Ryan Seacrest as the guest host for this week’s edition of the AT40. I thought he did a nice job hosting. This was a pretty good week for the most part. Let’s get right into it. So with that in mind, here are the songs leaving us this week:

New Entrants
– Up and coming EDM artist Marshmello has two songs debuting this week. Let’s begin with his first collaboration with Khalid in their single titled Silence. Now, if I’m being honest, Khalid has been getting better with each new song he releases. He’s been having a pretty solid year thus far in terms of making his presence known to the music industry. As for this one, I guess it’s alright. The production isn’t necessarily the best, but Khalid does sound pretty good here. As of right now, I’m sticking with blue, but it could be a grower down the road.
– For our second debut, Marshmello has another collaboration, this time with Selena Gomez making another appearance on the American Top 40. Enter Wolves. I’ve talked about this song in great detail when it debuted on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown last week. Let’s briefly recap. After Selena Gomez failed to impress with her two disappointing singles recently (Bad Liar & Fetish), many had low expectations coming in. As soon as I finished listening to Wolves in its entirely, I was impressed with how it turned out. At first, I thought it was just a good song and this is something Selena Gomez should be doing. But with time, and repeated listens, I’ve come to enjoy this song a lot more. Words cannot describe how amazing this song is. Again, I’ll emphasize: IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Almost EVERYTHING about this song is spot on from Selena’s vocals to the beat drop after the chorus, where her vocals come in. In terms of the lyrical content, it talks about finding love and getting to it. As I mentioned last week, Selena has been trying to find the right person to be with, and by the looks of it, has gotten back to hanging out with Justin Bieber, at least from what I’ve heard. Anyway, this collaboration turned out really well and it’s definitely an early front-runner for my best song of 2018. I hope it does well because frankly, it’s deserving of it.
I’ve Been Blurbing For Too Long
– So, Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift dropped out rather quickly. It was quite an unusual song that got mixed opinions from music critics. As for me, I did enjoy it from the first listen. This had a pretty short run for a song that was #1 about a month ago. That said, it will be missed by me.
– Good to see Why by Sabrina Carpenter tumbling down to the Bottom 5. Hopefully, it’ll be on its way out soon.
– Despacito is declining much faster that I had expected to. You would think it would spend a long time here given that its possibly the biggest song of the year, but by the looks of it, I may be proven wrong.
– Yes, you’re reading it right: Do Re Mi is now my least favorite song on the countdown. I don’t get what people like about this. Recently, I forced myself to listen to the song in its entirely all the way through. My goodness, is this song torture to my ears!!!
– On the other hand Too Much To Ask took a nice jump this week. Let’s see if it can become as big as Slow Hands. It’s definitely a nice track that I can enjoy once in a while as opposed to the other songs I just talked about. *cough* Do Re Mi *cough*
– Again, in case you’re wondering, what you see is not an error. I have three songs in purple. Yes, I know, but to me these songs are just amazing. I already talked about Wolves, and Praying by Kesha doesn’t really need any explanation. Also, I’m enjoying …Ready For It? a lot more than I should. As I’ve said many times, Taylor Swift almost never disappoints.
– Not too surprised about Thunder reaching #1 this week. I had a feeling it was going to happen here on the AT40 eventually. Not that I’m complaining though, as I still like this song. It can stay there for as long as it wants.
– Alright, now that pretty much covers everything. Hang on a sec. I’m missing something…
Oh yeah. Let us rejoice! The horrible country song known as Body Like A Back Road has officially left the American Top 40! Good Riddance! You will never be missed!!!

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Sucker For Pain by Lil’ Wayne featuring Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, Ty Dolla $ign, and X Ambassadors: Taken from the Suicide Squad movie soundtrack, this big collaboration actually turned out quite well. The beat here is good, and I do like the rather dark vibe to it.
Nice post! I totally agree with all of your songs in purple. While I do like Do Re Mi, it is only the remix with Gucci Mane. I review the remix instead of the original that the AT40 plays in my posts. If the remix didn't not exist, it would definitely be in orange for me. I am so happy about Feels Great being a Breakout, the song is great and it is the only time that Fetty Wap's voice doesn't sound bad.
