Important Announcement!

Hello, fam! So, I haven’t announced it at all last week, but my blog has reached 30,000 Pageviews! It’s hard to believe I’ve come this far. It seems like yesterday I was just venturing into the world of blogging and now look where it is! I would like to say thank you to all of you who have been reading my blog and I hope you guys enjoyed reading my posts! But that’s not the reason why I’m posting this. I made this post because I have some important things I want to share with you. Yes, I’ll still be doing the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown and the American Top 40 reviews, and I’m not stopping anytime soon. This post is about some stuff that I want to talk about in terms of where this blog is headed going forward.

– I’ll be working on my Year-End posts all throughout this week. So, you can expect some of those to come within the next week, maybe even sooner. That includes the following posts mentioned below:

  • My Bottom 10 Songs of 2017
  • My Top 45 (or however many) Songs Of 2017
  • Billboard Year-End Hot 100 Review
  • Some other stuff I won’t mention right now.

– I’ll also try to work on some random posts in the near future, such as Top 10 songs from certain artists, album reviews, etc. Don’t expect those to come this month, though, given that I’ll be busy working on these Year-End posts mentioned above, but it’ll probably be next month or sometime soon.
– There will be a rankdown coming soon. No further details on what that will be about, but I’ll let you guys know when it’s coming once I decide what rankdown I should do. Also, I need some help on how to do it. So, if you can leave a comment below about some advice to give me, that would be nice.
– And finally, there’s something else I want to talk about: if anybody here can give me some advice on how to make the blogging community more interesting, you can leave a comment below if you like. That would be nice if I can get some help here in rebuilding this community.
And that’s pretty much all I’ve got to say. I wanted this to be a longer post explaining some things, but my apologies. I’m not good at those. Anyway, this is basically explaining where this blog is headed going forward. Again, thank you guys for helping my blog reach 30,000 Pageviews! It’s been an honor to be a part of this community and I’m looking forward to sharing more with you guys.
I hope you all have a great Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Oh, and stay frosty!
– Montavis 🙂

New Entrants

– Kicking off this week’s new entrants, we have Harry Styles making his return. Enter Kiwi, his third single off of his self-titled album. This song is a bit of a step up from Two Ghosts in terms of the production. I do love the rock elements this one has to offer. The sound kinda resembles that of the 70’s-80’s rock music. I love how Harry Styles can make use of his instruments in the song, much like with the rest of the album. Overall, it’s a solid track. We’ll see how far this one goes.

– Next up, we have the return of the X Ambassadors. Those who know them will probably remember Renegades, which was a huge favorite to the blogging community. Then, you had Unsteady, which on the other hand was hated by many here for whatever reason after spending a very long time on the countdown. Now this week, they bring us their new single Ahead Of Myself. It sounds pretty similar to Renegades to say the least. I do like the production in this one. However, to me it’s the lyrical content and the vocals that stand out. This is a song that I’m sure many can relate to. It talks about not getting too far ahead in everyone’s lives. It’s kind of a song that can help people reflect on their mistakes and learning from them. Overall, it’s a nice song and I don’t mind if it stays here for a while.

– Finally, we have Nick Jonas making his return to the countdown, by the name of Find You. Right off the bat, I didn’t really find this one too interesting at first. But I’ve come to embrace it more. I do like what the lyrical content has to offer, and the production here is pretty cool, especially when the guitars are being put to great use. Is it me, or does this song kinda sound like Lady Gaga – Perfect Illusion? Anyway, seeing as this one flopped elsewhere, it’ll be interesting to see how well this does on the countdown.

Every Time I Blurb Ahead Of Myself

– As far as our exits go, Sabrina Carpenter – Why I wasn’t fond of, so I’m happy about the departure. Evaride – Heartless was pretty underrated and I think it deserved better. Finally, we lost Bruno Mars – That’s What I Like. I figured it was going to make its exit eventually, but I did not expect it to leave since I have been hearing it a lot over the course of this week. I know that while many here are bidding good riddance, me and Scott are doing the exact opposite.

– *sees #1* Whoa! I didn’t think Galway Girl would jump back into the Top 5 and steal Imagine Dragons’s thunder (see what I did there) like that to take back the #1 spot. But sure, I’ll take it. Again, I expected Perfect to be #1, but that was not the case.

– Of course, Rockstar would be honored the Biggest Jump Of The Week in its second week. Not very thrilled about this. I’m going to be straight up and just say that this jump was completely uncalled for.

– On the other hand, Too Good At Goodbyes made a nice recovery back into the Top 20. I’m certainly fine with this. And seeing that it’s still somewhat gaining in radio and sales, this may not be done yet.

No Promises taking a big drop isn’t very surprising, given that this song lost its popularity a while ago. I have a feeling it won’t be on the countdown for too much longer.

– Speaking of drops, Save Me A Place has fallen down near the Bottom 5. It did have quite a run while it lasted, so I’ll give it that. Now, I’m hoping it can hang around for a little while longer.

Hit-Bound:

  • Bruno Mars – Chunky
  • P!NK – Beautiful Trauma
  • AJR featuring Rivers Cuomo – Sober Up (DEBUT)
  • Sofi Tukker – Best Friend
  • Walk The Moon – One Foot
  • Louis Tomlinson – Miss You (DEBUT)
  • Spencer – Whatever (DEBUT)
  • WØLVES – Animal
  • Clean Bandit featuring Julia Michaels – I Miss You
  • Fall Out Boy – Hold Me Tight Or Don’t
  • Macklemore featuring Kesha – Good Old Days
  • Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran and Future – End Game
  • Imagine Dragons – Whatever It Takes
  • Liam Payne – Bedroom Floor

– On this week’s edition of Hit-Bound, new artist Spencer was the guest host for Mikey Piff. We have three debuts to cover this week, so let’s review.
– First, we start with AJR making their return once again. This time, they brought along Rivers Cuomo with the song called Sober Up. Right off the bat, I’m going to go on the record and say this song sucks. And no, it’s not because I’m so sick of AJR after we just got through with the annoying Weak a few months ago. Sober Up is another one of those songs with cool lines, but with stupid lyrical content. And I don’t like their vocal work in this one. I recently watched Spectrum Pulse’s take on not only this song, but their album, The Click, in general. Simply put, he slammed this and the entire album big time, and for good reason. I will not be thrilled if it debuts on the countdown. But should it happen, I’ll have more words then.
– Unlike our first debut, there are two other new entrants that I’m sure will interest most people here. We have Louis Tomlinson who just released his new single yesterday, by the name of Miss You. I was expecting Just Like You to make its debut at some point, but I was proven wrong. Anyway, Miss You does have some rock elements to it, and I do like Louis’s vocals. Since Hits 1 loves One Direction, it’s almost certain to debut on the countdown soon. So I’ll talk more about it later on.
– Finally, we have Spencer himself who makes his debut as a new artist, by the name of Whatever. Right off the bat, it’s not necessarily the best first impression for a new artist. But I do like the beat and the vocals here. Not too much else I can say beyond that.
My Top 5 Hit-Bound Picks
1. Bruno Mars – Chunky
2. Macklemore featuring Kesha – Good Old Days
3. Walk The Moon – One Foot

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Adele – Water Under The Bridge: Easily the best thing about this one is the production, in which more instruments are being used. And the powerhouse chorus is pretty darn epic. I’ll talk more about this in my Year-End posts, but it’s not too hard for me to figure out why this is a fan favorite off of 25.

New Entrants
– Up and coming EDM artist Marshmello has two songs debuting this week. Let’s begin with his first collaboration with Khalid in their single titled Silence. Now, if I’m being honest, Khalid has been getting better with each new song he releases. He’s been having a pretty solid year thus far in terms of making his presence known to the music industry. As for this one, I guess it’s alright. The production isn’t necessarily the best, but Khalid does sound pretty good here. As of right now, I’m sticking with blue, but it could be a grower down the road.

– For our second debut, Marshmello has another collaboration, this time with Selena Gomez making another appearance on the American Top 40. Enter Wolves. I’ve talked about this song in great detail when it debuted on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown last week. Let’s briefly recap. After Selena Gomez failed to impress with her two disappointing singles recently (Bad Liar & Fetish), many had low expectations coming in. As soon as I finished listening to Wolves in its entirely, I was impressed with how it turned out. At first, I thought it was just a good song and this is something Selena Gomez should be doing. But with time, and repeated listens, I’ve come to enjoy this song a lot more. Words cannot describe how amazing this song is. Again, I’ll emphasize: IT IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Almost EVERYTHING about this song is spot on from Selena’s vocals to the beat drop after the chorus, where her vocals come in. In terms of the lyrical content, it talks about finding love and getting to it. As I mentioned last week, Selena has been trying to find the right person to be with, and by the looks of it, has gotten back to hanging out with Justin Bieber, at least from what I’ve heard. Anyway, this collaboration turned out really well and it’s definitely an early front-runner for my best song of 2018. I hope it does well because frankly, it’s deserving of it.

I’ve Been Blurbing For Too Long
– So, Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift dropped out rather quickly. It was quite an unusual song that got mixed opinions from music critics. As for me, I did enjoy it from the first listen. This had a pretty short run for a song that was #1 about a month ago. That said, it will be missed by me.

– Good to see Why by Sabrina Carpenter tumbling down to the Bottom 5. Hopefully, it’ll be on its way out soon.

Despacito is declining much faster that I had expected to. You would think it would spend a long time here given that its possibly the biggest song of the year, but by the looks of it, I may be proven wrong.

– Yes, you’re reading it right: Do Re Mi is now my least favorite song on the countdown. I don’t get what people like about this. Recently, I forced myself to listen to the song in its entirely all the way through. My goodness, is this song torture to my ears!!!

– On the other hand Too Much To Ask took a nice jump this week. Let’s see if it can become as big as Slow Hands. It’s definitely a nice track that I can enjoy once in a while as opposed to the other songs I just talked about. *cough* Do Re Mi *cough*

– Again, in case you’re wondering, what you see is not an error. I have three songs in purple. Yes, I know, but to me these songs are just amazing. I already talked about Wolves, and Praying by Kesha doesn’t really need any explanation. Also, I’m enjoying …Ready For It? a lot more than I should. As I’ve said many times, Taylor Swift almost never disappoints.

– Not too surprised about Thunder reaching #1 this week. I had a feeling it was going to happen here on the AT40 eventually. Not that I’m complaining though, as I still like this song. It can stay there for as long as it wants.

– Alright, now that pretty much covers everything. Hang on a sec. I’m missing something…

Oh yeah. Let us rejoice! The horrible country song known as Body Like A Back Road has officially left the American Top 40! Good Riddance! You will never be missed!!!

Breakouts/On The Verge:

  • Dusk Till Dawn by ZAYN featuring Sia
  • Walk On Water by Eminem featuring Beyoncé
  • Feels Great by Cheat Codes featuring Fetty Wap
  • End Game by Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran and Future

  • Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz
  • Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Sucker For Pain by Lil’ Wayne featuring Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, Ty Dolla $ign, and X Ambassadors: Taken from the Suicide Squad movie soundtrack, this big collaboration actually turned out quite well. The beat here is good, and I do like the rather dark vibe to it.
