Hello, fam! Wow, we’re pretty much at the halfway point of the year so far. Where has the time gone? Anyway, I finally posted my 75,000 Pageview Special this week. If you haven’t already, I recommend you check it out. So without further adieu, here are the songs leaving the countdown this week:
- Want You Back by 5 Seconds Of Summer (#30)
- No Roots by Alice Merton (#29)
The Countdown:
Last Week’s #1 Song: Never Be The Same by Camila Cabello
#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers featuring Coldplay (1st And Only Week At #1)
Biggest Fall Of The Week: No Excuses by Meghan Trainor (–8)
Biggest Rise Of The Week: Nice For What by Drake (+9)
New Entrants
– To start off our new round of debuts, we have the return of a band that many here are not looking forward to. AJR make their return with the single called Sober Up, which features Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. I already explained why I dislike the song so much. AJR has been the type of band that hasn’t impressed me at all. If you remember, I did like Weak at first but I realized how stupid the lyrics were and the chorus was obnoxious. Here in Sober Up, it has the same result. While the chorus isn’t quite as bad with the high falsetto getting on my nerves, it’s still very undesirable all around. The lyrics are no good. Yeah, I’m hoping it doesn’t stick around.
– Our second debut is much better than the one I just finished talking about. Selena Gomez makes her return to the American Top 40 countdown this week not long after the departure of Wolves last week. Her new single is titled Back To You, which is taken from the 13 Reason Why Soundtrack for Season 2. Now right off the bat, this is the type of song I want to hear from Selena. She doesn’t do any mumbling or whispering whatsoever throughout the song. Here, she actually sounds good singing with her vocals and we get to hear what she’s truly capable of. This is an improvement for Selena Gomez and I’m looking forward to seeing that one be successful.
Best Debut Of The Week: Back To You by Selena Gomez
I Want To Blurb Something Again
– As far as our exits go this week, Want You Back leaving wasn’t much of a surprise given that 5 Seconds Of Summer aren’t very popular outside of Hits 1. Then we have No Roots, which I felt deserved better. I personally thought it was one of the best songs in alternative music. It’s unfortunate that it failed t do well on this countdown.
– Not much has changed in the Top 5 except Never Be The Same is #1 for the third week in the row (ugh). But Whatever It Takes has entered that region, which is nice to see and I don’t mind it being there for a while.
– New Rules has now left the Top 10 for the first time in about six months. Talk about an incredible run. Now we’ll see how long this can hang around. I have a feeling it’s going to be ranked very high on the year-end list come December.
– We had quite a couple of big drops this week. Him & I has now left the Top 20. It had a nice run while it lasted. No Excuses, on the other hand, took another big drop and now is at the end of its rope. I won’t be too surprised if it leaves soon.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
HUMBLE. by Kendrick Lamar: Easily the best song Kendrick Lamar has done. He definitely showcases his talent as a rapper in this song. It is unfortunate that it didn’t really do well on this countdown, but it did well elsewhere.
Slow Hands by Niall Horan: While this isn’t quite his best song, it’s different from the acoustic guitar. It’s more upbeat than This Town.
Attention by Charlie Puth: It was the start of something new for Charlie Puth, and it worked out well for him. Even though the song is only a year old, I still enjoy it to this day.

I thought you didn’t like Redbone?

That throwback pick. And I haven't been keeping up with the mediabase chart too much lately, so based on how it's looking what should be happening here within the next couple weeks? Will Never Be The Same stay at #1 or will something else take over?

The Middle is back at number one right now, but Psycho should take over within the next week. It has had gains of about 300 a day recently

Oof. I didn't know that Gross Malone was still a thing. So I assume God's Plan is done (sadly)?

Oof. Sober Up in orange. Well I'm not surprised. Lucky for you it seems to be stuck where it is right now so while it won't leave soon, it'll probably won't reach anything special either.Right now, I'm just happy it debuted. 🙂
