AT40: Post Malone (1) – Week Of June 23, 2018

Hello, fam. We’ve now plunged into the dark ages of the countdown. Things are not looking good on the AT40 as we head into the first full week of summer. New Entrants
– So, we have only two entrant this week. First, we have the return of Sam Smith with his latest from The Thrill Of It All, by the name of Pray, which is remixed with Logic. I talked about this song last week when it debuted on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown. But to recap, I like the original version of the song. However, in the remix, Logic makes things better. I love the lyrical content in the song and both artists did a nice job with their vocals. So yeah, this is a good collaboration and a great song overall.

Cardi B. comes in with her new single titled I Like It, which features Bad Bunny and J. Balvin. Simply put, it’s really not that different from her previous singles. While it’s better than songs like Bodak Yellow, I’m still not impressed for the most part. I just don’t like the production and some of the verses after pretty annoying. With the song doing well in sales, I can see it becoming a hit unfortunately. So I’ll have to get used to it for the time being. I might be exaggerating a bit, but we’ll see what happens.

Maybe I’ll Blurb

– Our two exits consists of short-tenured songs. Sober lasting only one week wasn’t too surprising. These Days definitely deserved better. It was a great song overall and a nice collaboration between four different artists. That song will be missed by me.

– And just like that, Post Malone has reached #1 this week. It’s even worse than having Never Be The Same being there for five consecutive weeks. I’m just not fond of his music, and this song is no different. Unfortunately, it’ll probably end up staying there for a while. :/

– I’m not too surprised about Delicate entering the Top 10. I won’t quite say it tops Taylor Swift’s best work. But it is a good song overall and it kinda reminds me of her songs from her 1989 album.

– The jump from Don’t Go Breaking My Heart was appreciated by me. I don’t see it becoming a huge hit for them, but it’s an enjoyable song overall. It’s nice to have the Backstreet Boys back.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Congratulations by Post Malone featuring Quavo: As I mentioned above, I’m not very fond of Post Malone. Though I’m slowly coming around to his music (Candy Paint, etc.), this song along with his two current representations was never to my liking.
Swish Swish by Katy Perry featuring Nicki Minaj: While the music video for the song wasn’t really good, I thought it was still a great collaboration between both Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj. Too bad this didn’t take off, in part because her momentum died down after its predecessor fizzed out.
Strip That Down by Liam Payne featuring Quavo: Liam’s debut single is probably the weakest of the One Direction members going solo. I won’t say it’s as bad as many others are saying, but it still left me scratching my head as to why.
