AT40: Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello (2) – Week Of September 14, 2019

SMCC2Hello, fam! I’m working on a special post for you all. It should be coming within the next week or so. As far as the countdown goes, I think this was a pretty good week for the most part. #1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Better Now by Post Malone (1st of 2 Weeks At #1)

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At The Disco (–7)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Panini by Lil Nas X (+6)

New Entrants:
– Up first is the collaboration between K-Pop group Monsta X and rapper French Montana in their latest single, Who Do U Love?. My expectations were low coming into this one. But I was impressed with how it turned out. I like their vocals here and the verses are good. Production and the beat are pretty neat. I don’t have much else to say beyond that. I think it’s pretty good.

– More of Normani is nice, as she brings us her solo single in the form of Motivation. First off, I want to say that the music video is pretty cool. It definitely has that throwback feel to it. That’s some good stuff. Anyway, I wasn’t huge on this at first, bit I have been growing into this one over the past couple of weeks. I still don’t think it’s anything amazing. The beat is interesting, and I like her vocal work here. I also think the lyrics are pretty good. This is a song that has the potential to get better with more listens. I have a feeling it’ll be a hit. We’ll see what happens.

Best Debut Of The Week: Motivation by Normani (but not by much)

Who Do U Blurb?
– We have two exits. First, it’s about time we bid adieu to the mess that is of Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored. Whatever Ariana went for here did not work out to my liking and I don’t like the message it sends. Yeah, that one will never be missed. As for Better by Khalid, it was a grower at first. But I enjoyed it while it was here and though it didn’t hit #1, I was happy to see it get some success. Goodbye Better, I will miss you.

Señorita holds at #1 this week, which is a good thing. We also saw the rise of Truth Hurts to #2. I’m sure that one will end up getting to #1 at some point in time.

– We also saw the fall of Hey Look Ma, I Made It, moving down 7 spots this week. I feel like it’s time is coming to an end. I may not enjoy it as much now, but it would’ve been cool to see go further than #6, which it peaked at.

– On that note, High Hopes is now sitting at the bottom of the countdown. Looks like this is really the end for this after all.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Boo’d Up by Elle Mai: Not a bad start for Elle Mai, though I feel like there’s nothing original about this to make it special. It’s a fine song, but not really memorable.

Happy Now by Zedd featuring Elley Duhé: I know Zedd has done better, but I really like this song. I think Elley Duhé hasa good voice and sounds amazing. I love the production as well.

Beautiful (Remix) by Bazzi featuring Camila Cabello: It’s not the best Cosmic has to offer, but everything about the song works well. I’m glad this one ended up having some success on this countdown despite it not being huge elsewhere.
