AT40: Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello (4) – Week Of September 28, 2019

SMCC4Hello, fam!  This week, it was officially announced that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be performing at Super Bowl LIV this February during the halftime show. Personally, I think it’s a good choice. They’re both great singers (as well as dancers) and I’m familiar with most of their music. I’ll definitely be looking forward to that. Also, the MLB postseason begins next week. And I’ll be watching for sure since my Braves are in it. It’s a good thing they won the NL East division. Hopefully, they’ll end up winning the World Series. We’ll see what ultimately happens. Before we get to this week’s fresh 40, here are the songs we’re saying goodbye to this week:

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Speechless by Dan + Shay (–11)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Circles by Post Malone (+12)

New Entrants:
– Our only new entrant of the week comes from rising EDM star ILLENIUM, and he teams you with Jon Bellion in their single titled Good Things Fall Apart. If you know Jon Bellion, then you’ll probably remember him for his 2017 hit in the form of All Time Low, which was a favorite among music critics.  He has made some good music that I like for the most part.  As far as the song goes, I think it’s solid.  I like his vocal performance here. ILLENIUM impressed me with his work as a DJ.  I don’t have much else to say beyond that.  I find it enjoyable and it shows how good ILLENIUM is as an EDM artist.  I may have said the same thing about Marshmello when he went mainstream.  But the difference between then and now is that I feel like ILLENIUM has more potential to get better as time goes along.  We’ll see what ultimately happens.

Good Blurbs Fall Apart
– As far as our exit goes, we say goodbye to Call You Mine this week. It’s a shame this didn’t become a hit because I thought it was really good. I guess people will remember them for their earlier hits from 2016-2017.

– Speechless having the biggest drop off the week is disappointing. But it’s not a surprise since that one has died out elsewhere. It had some success on Billboard and it’s locked for a spot on the Year-End list. So I’m pleased with this.

Post Malone may be running around in Circles (see what I did there?).  But the only way he’s going is upward as his song massively jumps into the Top 20 this week.  This ain’t moving downward anytime soon as this is gaining momentum.

– While Señorita holds at #1,  Shawn Mendes’s other song, If I Can’t Have You, is dropping like flies here.  It’s at #10 and barely hanging on in that region.  Perfect way to bookend the Top 10, huh?

– Speaking of Post Malone, we have Goodbyes entering the Top 5.  That I’m a little indifferent on as of right now.  But I know it’s going to stick around for a while.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Taste by Tyga featuring Offset: I’ll say it’s better than the majority of rap music that’s flooding the charts and that in and of itself isn’t saying much because the song is shit.  Yes, it may have a good groove and all, but I don’t care about the production.  I listen for talent.  This is poor talent display at it’s finest.  Tyga is not a good rapper.  Plus, Offset adds virtually nothing to the song whatsoever, and the poorly-written lyrics aren’t helping matters.
