New Entrants:
– Not a good class of debuts we have here.  Let’s start things off with more of Billie Eilish, who replaces herself on the countdown.  She gives us All The Good Girls Go To HellBillie has made herself known this year following the success of her album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?.  One of the songs from that album, Bad Guy, recently went to #1 back in August dethroning Old Town Road, which spent a record-breaking 19 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.  I’ve been a big fan of what she has to offer throughout the course of the year.  I liked songs such as Bury A Friend, When The Party’s Over, and Bad Guy.  But I can’t really say that for All The Good Girls Go To Hell.  I think Billie sounds okay here.  But in terms of the production, it lacks some kind of substance that her other singles had.  The beat isn’t too interesting.  In addition, there are some lyrics that I can’t seem to get on board with.  So yeah, this isn’t my cup of tea.  But in a week with a weak class of debuts, I’ll take it over any of those two songs debuting.  She recently released her newer single which debuted on Hit-Bound, and I’ll get to that later on.

– Up next, we have more of Diplo, and he collaborates with the Jonas Brothers in their latest single titled LonelyDiplo has made himself a name for the past several years and I liked a lot of what he had to offer (save for his time with LSD).  I still think he’s pretty good as an EDM artist.  But this was not a good display of talent here.  I kinda like the guitar at the beginning.  But then it all goes downhill when the drop comes in.  The Jonas Brothers are pretty good singers for the most part.  But they did not impress me with their vocal performance.  So yeah, I’m not a fan of the song.  These guys are capable of much better.

– Oh boy.  Last and definitely least, we have more of Marshmello, and he teams up with country singer Kane Brown in One Thing Right.  I haven’t really been a big fan of what Marshmello has had to offer recently (save for a few songs).  One Thing Right is another new low for him.  He didn’t put forth any effort in terms of the production.  The guitar isn’t good at all and the drop is underwhelming.  Kane Brown is a good country singer.  But he sounds terrible throughout the song and the bridge is awful.  I talked about this in full detail when it debuted on the AT40 a few months ago.  You can check it out in case you haven’t already.  But to put it short, this is my new least favorite song on the countdown and it just shows how much faith I’ve lost in Marshmello.  I know he is much more talented than this.

Best Debut Of The Week: Billie Eilish – All The Good Girls Go To Hell

I’ve Got One Blurb Right
– So, we have three exits; two of which left from a relatively high position, and one which lasted as long as it did.  Rescue Me and Look What God Gave Her both had a nice run, and I liked those songs for a while.  But I knew their respective tenures would come to an end eventually.  I just didn’t quite expect it to happen so soon.  Bad Guy was another one of Billie Eilish’s songs that I fell in love with and I’m glad it was a huge hit.  I’ll definitely be revisiting the song when it comes time to do my Year-End posts.

Nice To Meet Ya hits a new peak at #2.  I figured it would happen since Hits 1 loves all things One Direction.  But I don’t mind because it’s a really good song.  I would like for it to be #1 at some point soon.

Graveyard has jumped into the Top 5 this week.  I find this to better than what Halsey has had to offer recently.  I did say the same when Nightmare was brand new, but I feel like that one will end up sticking with me longer.

Who Do You Love has finally dropped out of the Top 10.  It’s about time that happened.  It’s been there for a long time now.  Hopefully, it continues its downward trajectory.

Hit-Bound:

  • Arizona Zervas – Roxanne (DEBUT)
  • Lewis Capaldi – Hold Me While You Wait
  • Dua Lipa – Don’t Start Now
  • Post Malone featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott – Take What You Want
  • Fall Out Boy – Bob Dylan
  • Ed Sheeran featuring Camila Cabello and Cardi B – South Of The Border
  • Panic! At The Disco – Into The Unknown (DEBUT)
  • Harry Styles – Lights Up
  • Lil Nas X – Panini
  • Billie Eilish – Everything I Wanted (DEBUT)
  • Meghan Trainor featuring Mike Sabath – Wave
  • Hot Chelle Rae – I Hate (Love) LA
  • OneRepublic – Wanted
  • Sofi Tukker – Purple Hat
  • The Chainsmokers – Push My Luck (DEBUT)

Entrant Reviews:
– Up first is newcomer Arizona Zervas with Roxanne.  Right off the bat, it’s not a good song at all.  I’m not fond of the beat, his voice is auto-tuned and the lyrics are terrible.   It’s poorly-produced and it has no substance whatsoever.  NEXT!

– We have more of what Panic! At The Disco has to offer here, and they give us their latest single taken from the Frozen 2 movie soundtrack, titled Into The Unknown.  First off, I want to say that the first Frozen movie was amazing and I enjoyed watching it.  I do plan on seeing the sequel sometime soon.  As far as the song goes, I pretty much like it.  Brendon Urie sounds good here and the production is interesting.  I’ll have more on this when it inevitably debuts.

– As one song from Billie Eilish enters the Weekend Countdown, another has come to take its place on Hit-Bound.  She gives us her newest single in the form of Everything I Wanted.  I like this quite a lot, actually.  It has more substance in terms of the production and the beat sounds good.  Plus, Billie showcases her unique vocal talent.  I do hope to see this one debut soon.

– Finally, we have more of The Chainsmokers, and they give us Push My Luck.  I was really fond of Takeaway, which sadly failed to graduate to the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown.  While Push My Luck isn’t quite as good as its predecessor, there’s still plenty to like about the song.  The production is pretty neat and I like Drew’s vocals here.  He put on a fine performance in that aspect.  Overall, it’s a nice song.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Alec Benjamin – Let Me Down Slowly: I may have disliked this back when it was new.  But now looking back on it, I’m not exactly sure what I was thinking.  I’ll have more on this when I do my Year-End posts.

Shawn Mendes – Nervous: Probably one of the weakest of what he had to offer for his self-titled album.  It’s not really bad, but there’s not a lot I find too interesting.  I think his performance was underwhelming here.

Post Malone featuring Swae Lee – Sunflower: One of Post Malone’s best songs.  I like the beat here and both of these guys sound pretty good here.  Again, I’ll have more on this next month on my Year-End posts.

Camila Cabello – Consequences: While Camila isn’t exactly my favorite singer, this is a nice ballad.  I like how she doesn’t try to hard to hit those high notes and the piano is solid.

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Higher Love by Kygo featuring Whitney Houston (–7)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Lose You To Love Me by Selena Gomez (+10)

New Entrants:
– We have more of 5 Seconds Of Summer here, and they give us their latest single in the form of Teeth, which is taken from the soundtrack of 13 Reasons Why for season three.  Since the start of 2018, they’ve been a pretty big name in music, what with Youngblood become their biggest hit of their career so far.  In terms of their new single, I think it’s pretty decent.  I do quite like the rock vibe it’s going for and the instrumentation is fine.  But what brings the song down for me a little bit is their vocal work.  I feel like they didn’t really impress me with the chorus.  It doesn’t live up to what they had to offer in the past, but it’s a lot better than Easier, which was not very good because there was no band there and their performance was pretty bad there.  I’m okay with it sticking around, though I really don’t care either way.

– We have a newcomer making her first appearance on the countdown.  It’s from Australian act Tones & I with a song titled Dance Monkey.  I remember when I first heard the song initially that I didn’t like it, in part because it was annoying from a vocal standpoint.  But within the past month or so, it has done a complete 180 on me.  I think her voice is unique and I kinda like the beat here.  The rest of the production is pretty damn solid too.  It’s a catchy song overall.  It was a huge hit overseas and now it looks destined to try to do the same in the United States and I’m here for it.

Best Debut Of The Week: Dance Monkey by Tones & I

Bad Blurbs Is What I Need
– On the note of exits, Good Things Fall Apart was pretty good vocally because Jon Bellion is a good singer and I like ILLENIUM’s work here.  But it was not destined to last.  Good riddance to No Guidance.  That one thankfully didn’t stick around for too long.  But since it did well on the Billboard Hot 100 (only because of Drake), I know it’ll be on their Year-End list, which is bad news.

– We get a new #1 in the form of Circles.  I saw it coming from about 10,000 miles away.  Post Malone is still relevant, so it was bound to happen at some point.  I do like the song, so I’m perfectly fine with it taking the top spot over the mediocre at best Someone You Loved.

– And of course, we get the Top 10 entry from Memories by Maroon 5.  I knew it was going to happen because people still can’t get enough of these guys.  But this is not interesting in the slightest and Adam sounds unenthusiastic.  This is for sure going to stick around for a while, and that’s not good.

– We do get the big rise of Lose You To Love Me in the Top 20, which is very good news.  I think the song is amazing.  Selena really impressed me here with her voice.  I’m glad this one is gaining momentum.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Trust My Lonely by Alessia Cara: This is one of my least favorite singles Alessia has put out.  The awkward production and some questionable lyrics doesn’t make this a fun listen for me.  Alessia has had much better.

Be Alright by Dean Lewis: It’s nothing I loathe, really.  I do like what it’s going for lyrically and I kinda like Dean’s voice, but it didn’t stick with me in the big picture.

Better by Khalid: The follow-up to Love Lies.  It’s another one of Khalid’s best solo singles to date.  It’s a shame that Talk had to be his biggest hit and not this, because there’s quite a bit I like about the song.

– The return of Kesha is something that I’ve been anticipating for some time now.  This week, she makes her comeback with her new single titled Raising Hell, from her new album High Road.  The story for the past couple of years was that Kesha was involved in a battle with Dr. Luke.  Then, she would end up making her comeback in 2017 with a beautiful ballad in the form of Praying, which still remains as her best single in my opinion.  For her new song, it looks like she is going back to her fun days.  It took me a few listens, but now I’m grown into it.  Kesha is a good singer and she showcases her talent here.  She sounds good in the chorus.  I like the use of the horns and the rest of the production works well to perfection.  Overall, I think it’s a good song and I’m interested to see what her album has in store.

– We have the return of former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson after over a year.  He gives us his newer single titled We Made It.  He had two songs on Hit-Bound which didn’t graduate to the Weekend Countdown (Two Of Us and Kill My Mind).  But as they always say, the third time’s the charm with his new song.  I won’t quite say it’s as good as the other two.  But I still like it for the most part.  I like the instrumentation and Louis has a good voice.  The lyrics are nicely-written as well.  He is a good songwriter and this song shows it.  I’m hoping it can stick around for a while.

Best Debut Of The Week: Kesha featuring Big Freedia – Raising Hell

Raising Blurbs
– Yup, I started to slowly come around to Dominic Fike – 3 Nights, and of course this is the week that it leaves.  Just great.  Meanwhile, Goodbyes I was starting to get sick of, so I have no complaints about it exiting.

– And just like that, Teeth finishes its quick rise to #1 in its fourth week on the countdown.  I’ll definitely take that over  Someone You Loved any day.  But Teeth is still decent at best.  5 Seconds Of Summer have done a lot better in the past and Jet Black Heart is a favorite of mine from them.  Teeth doesn’t really live up to that, but it’s a lot better than Easier.

Lover makes its arrival into the Top 10 this week.  A new remix of the song recently came out and it featured Shawn Mendes.  I do like that version overall, but I much prefer the original.  Still, I’m glad the song is finally catching on as we head towards the end of the year.

– For the first time in forever, the Jonas Brothers have no songs in the Top 10.  Feels like it was yesterday when these guys were dominating the countdown with Sucker.  Looks like their run might be coming to an end.

Lose You To Love Me having the Biggest Jump Of The Week definitely pleases me.  Looks like people really missed having Selena on the countdown.  I think the song is amazing.  It is currently a huge favorite of mine at the moment.  I like to see it continue its momentum here.

– I didn’t quite envision Dear Future Self (Hands Up) taking a massive drop this week, especially since it debuted about a month ago.  Then again, it shouldn’t be surprising to me since Fall Out Boy can’t seem to get a huge hit lately.  I don’t think they’ve had a major hit since Uma Thurman.

Hit-Bound:

  • Meghan Trainor featuring Mike Sabath – Wave
  • Fall Out Boy – Bob Dylan (DEBUT)
  • Sofi Tukker – Purple Hat
  • Diplo featuring Jonas Brothers – Lonely
  • Lewis Capaldi – Hold Me While You Wait
  • Post Malone featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott – Take What You Want
  • Hot Chelle Rae – I Hate LA
  • Billie Eilish – All The Good Girls Go To Hell
  • Ed Sheeran featuring Camila Cabello and Cardi B – South Of The Border
  • Lil Nas X – Panini
  • OneRepublic – Wanted
  • Dua Lipa – Don’t Start Now (DEBUT)
  • Marshmello featuring Kane Brown – One Thing Right
  • Harry Styles – Lights Up
  • Ariana Grande featuring Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey – Don’t Call Me Angel

Entrant Reviews:
– As Dear Future Self (Hands Up) appears to be on its way out, another song from Fall Out Boy is looking to take its place.  Enter Bob Dylan.  I find it interesting that they named their new song after the singer himself.  As far as the song goes, I think it’s pretty solid.  I like the rock vibe here and these guys sound good here.  I’ll have more on this when it debuts.

– Then, we have the comeback of Dua Lipa after a big year in 2018.  She brings us her new single titled Don’t Start Now.  There’s a lot I really like about this.  The pre-chorus is pretty damn solid and how it leads up to the chorus, which has a nice groove, makes for a enjoyable tune.  I’ll save most of my words for when it hopefully debuts.

Biggest Rise Of The Week: All The Good Girls Go To Hell by Billie Eilish (+5)

New Entrants:
– We’ll kick things off with a song that should’ve never debuted.  It’s from Saweetie and she brings us My Type.  I don’t get the appeal to the song at all.  Everything about it sucks from the top down bottom up.  First off, I don’t like her voice here.  She sounds so annoying and the production is not interesting at all.  The lyrics are pretty dumb as well.  I’m not exactly sure what she is going for here, but it just didn’t work out to my liking in terms of the lyrics.  I’m guessing she thinks it’s my type of song I wanted to hear.  But nope, I don’t like it.  She attempted to make a good first impression with this song and the end result is excruciating to my ears.  Yeah, skip this.

– Fortunately, we get the big return of a certain act who makes up for that nonsense.  It’s from Selena Gomez and she brings us her comeback single in the form of Lose You To Love Me.  Last year, she gave us two of her solo singles in the form of Wolves (with Marshmello) and Back To You, the former being my #2 song of 2018.  This time around, she brings us a ballad, something which I wasn’t really expecting out of her.  Basically, it talks about her long-ago relationship with Justin Bieber, who is currently married to Hailey Baldwin.  The lyrics are definitely something we can relate to.  As for the rest of the song itself, I think it’s divine on all levels.  I really like Selena’s voice here and she shines in the chorus.  The production is pretty neat as well.  I love the piano and the instruments are put to good use, such as the strings.  I really, really adore this song with a burning passion and I’m glad that this was Selena’s first-ever #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.  I’m hoping the same can ring true here.

Best Debut Of The Week: Lose You To Love Me by Selena Gomez

This Blurb Has Taken Its Toll
– In terms of our exits, Motivation sadly did not last very long.  I was for sure this would be a solo hit for Normani.  But it just didn’t work out that way.  Looks like her collaborations will remain as her only hits so far.  And then we have Sweet But Psycho, which had a good run.  I’m glad this was a hit in 2019.  Ava Max got the recognition she needed.  I enjoyed the song overall and it’s very likely you’ll see it come My Top 50 Songs Of 2019.

– In Top 10 news, Good As Hell makes its entry, swapping places with Goodbyes.  It’s nice to see Lizzo gaining recognition following the success of Truth Hurts.  I’m sure Good As Hell will be another huge hit for her in no time.  I’m in love with the song, so I’m pleased to see it in that region.

How Do You Sleep? by Sam Smith enters the Top 10 as well.  I’ve listened the song quite a lot for the past weeks and I don’t really dislike it.  I’ve come around to the song a little bit, although I’m still not a big fan of the drop.  Obviously, he’s had better, but this is definitely not as bad as I originally thought.

Body by Loud Luxury featuring Brando: This is pretty solid, mainly for the bassline and the drop.  The EDM duo made a good first impression here.

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Talk by Khalid (–4)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Tie between Ran$om by Lil Tecca, 10,000 Hours by Dan + Shay featuring Justin Bieber, and Graveyard by Halsey (+2)

New Entrants:
Billie Eilish has been a big name this year due to the success of her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. We’ve seen her get her first ever #1 with Bad Guy on the AT40 and the Billboard Hot 100 (after Old Town Road spent a record-breaking 19 weeks at #1). She brings us another song from her album, which is called All The Good Girls Go To Hell.  I do like the majority of what her album has to offer even though there are some who will disagree.   But I don’t think All The Good Girls Go To Hell was a good choice in my opinion.  It’s not a bad song by any means, but it’s not something I’ll actively seek out either.  She sounds okay here, but where the song lacks is the production and the beat.  I feel like they lack some kind of substance to make it interesting. There are some lyrics that I can’t seem to get into.  I know she is a good songwriter, but she doesn’t really show it here.  Overall, it’s not really my cup of tea.

– Who’s ready for the return of Niall Horan?  You are?  No worries, I am too.  It’s been a while since we’ve heard from him.  But now he makes his comeback with Nice To Meet Ya.  I talked about this song in full detail a month ago.  To recap, it’s a good song that really showcases Niall Horan’s abilities as a songwriter and a singer.  I like how he sounds so smooth when he sings.  It’s mainly because he tries to talk to a girl.  He really shows off his swagger here.  And let’s not forget about the nice guitar and the piano work.  Yeah, everything about the song works well to perfection.  I’m interested to see how Niall’s new album will turn out.

Best Debut Of The Week: Nice To Meet Ya by Niall Horan

Blurbs
– I’m sorry, but because this is a late post there won’t be many blurbs posted.  But it’s not like there was anything to talk about since nothing really happened on the countdown.  I will however, say that we can celebrate as 7 Rings has FINALLY left the countdown.  It’s about damn time!  Good riddance!  You will NEVER be missed by me.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Shallow by Lady Gaga featuring Bradley Cooper: Everything about the song is just divine from Lady Gaga’s vocals to the acoustic guitar.  I’m glad this became a massive hit after winning an award at the Oscars earlier this year.

This Feeling by The Chainsmokers featuring Kelsea Ballerini: Their best single since Closer.  Almost everything here works well to perfection.  It’s too bad this wasn’t a huge hit as I wanted it to be.

Consequences by Camila Cabello: I think this is a nice ballad.  I like how Camila doesn’t try hard to hit those high notes and the piano sounds good.  There were some better single choices off of her self-titled album, sure.  But at least it’s not Never Be The Same.

Don’t Matter To Me by Drake featuring Michael Jackson: I quite like this for the most part.  Production is nice and I like the Michael Jackson sample.  It was nice of Drake to make this, since he was a huge fan of him back in the day.

Lewis Capaldi (2) – Week Of November 9, 2019

LC3Hello, fam!  So yeah, this is another late post because once again, I’ve been lazy and unmotivated to do this.  I’m planning on doing reveals in terms of the 2012 Billboard Year-End Rankdown this weekend.  I’ve entered the submissions and I’m working on calculating the results.  They should be ready to go by around Friday or so.  Then, I’ll start on the reveals.  That’s something to look forward to.  Before we get to this week’s fresh 45, here are the songs we’re saying goodbye to this week:

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Marshmello featuring BΔSTILLE – Happier (1st of 2 Weeks At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Jonas Brothers – Cool (–18)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Niall Horan – Nice To Meet Ya (+15)

New Entrants:
– This week, we get the big return of Selena Gomez.  She has two songs making their debut.  I’m going to start with the least interesting one in the form of Look At Her Now.  Right off the bat, I’m not feeling this one.  I don’t really like the production in a way and the chorus is irritating.  The way she goes “mm-mm” turns me off.  I get what it’s going for, but I think it was poorly executed.  I don’t have much else to say.  Yeah, I’m not a fan of this.

– But fortunately, she has another song debuting alongside it.  It’s titled Lose You To Love Me.  I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I actually really love this song overall.  It basically tells a story about going through a painful experience with love and it’s something we can relate to.  The production is pretty damn solid and I like the songwriting here.  Selena sounds amazing and that chorus is good.  I’m glad this was her first ever #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.  It took a while, but I’m happy that she was finally able to get a massive hit with this song.  It’s nice to have Selena back.  🙂

Best Debut Of The Week: Selena Gomez – Lose You To Love Me

I Needed To Lose You To Blurb Me
– So, we have two exits.  First up is Roaring 20s, which becomes Panic! At The Disco’s first flop on Hits 1 since I don’t know how long.  Feels like it’s been a while since a song from Brendon Urie and company left this early, especially since Hits 1 has fallen in love with them over the years.  Dream Boy I thought was pretty cool and I enjoyed it for a while, but I knew it wouldn’t last.

– In terms of the Top 5, we get entrants from Circles and Nice To Meet Ya.  The former I’m actually surprised about in a way because Post Malone’s music typically doesn’t last very long on Hits 1.  But at the same time, it is a huge hit elsewhere.  I’m fine with this being up there since I do kinda like the song.  Nice To Meet Ya was bound to enter the region at some point in time.  Looks like people were happy to have Niall Horan back after a while.

– It was really only a matter of time until Teeth made its way into the Top 10.  I’m okay with this one sticking around for a little while as opposed to Easier, which thankfully dropped out of the Top 10.  Now if we can at least swap places with Who Do You Love, that’d be great.

– TWENTY ØNE PILØTS are definitely living up to The Hype as their song takes a nice jump into the Top 10 as well.  I’m glad this is their highest-peaking single off of Trench as opposed to their last countdown song, Chlorine, which only peaked at #11.  We’ll see how long it lasts.

– There were some noticeable drops this week.  But the one I want to talk about was Sucker finally dropping out of the Top 10.  This is the first time it’s not in that region.  Looks like the end may be finally near.

– Yeah…I just listened to How Do You Sleep? many times and believe it or not, I actually do not dislike it.  I mean, I’m still not a fan of the drop.  It brings the song down for me.  But I can kinda appreciate what the song is going for.

– Speaking of the Jonas Brothers, I’m very glad that Cool had the “Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week”!  I’ve decided between Nightmare and Cool for my worst song, and I’ve stuck with the latter because I realized how stupid the lyrics really are.  And their weak vocal performance only makes matter worse.  I just couldn’t take anymore of that song.  Hopefully it can leave soon.

Hit-Bound:

  • Lil Nas X – Panini (DEBUT)
  • Billie Eilish – All The Good Girls Go To Hell
  • Ariana Grande featuring Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey – Don’t Call Me Angel
  • Marshmello featuring Kane Brown – One Thing Right
  • OneRepublic – Wanted
  • Harry Styles – Lights Up
  • Kesha featuring Big Freedia – Raising Hell
  • Diplo featuring Jonas Brothers – Lonely
  • Ed Sheeran featuring Camila Cabello and Cardi B – South Of The Border

  • Louis Tomlinson – We Made It
  • Meghan Trainor featuring Mike Sabath – Wave
  • Hot Chelle Rae – I Hate LA (DEBUT)
  • Sofi Tukker – Purple Hat (DEBUT)

Entrant Reviews:
Lil Nas X has been a big name this year following the success of Old Town Road, which has become the longest running #1 song of all time on the Billboard Hot 100.  This week, he brings us Panini.  I actually think this is pretty decent.  It’s better than Old Town Road in a way.  I’m still not too fond of his voice.  But I kinda like the production here.

– Next is more of Post Malone with an interesting collaboration.  He teams up with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott in their new single Take What You Want.  I find this to actually be really good and probably one of my favorites from Hollywood’s Bleeding.  I like the chemistry between them.  Their verses are good and I like the beat, as well as the electric guitar.  It sounds pretty cool.  I’m hoping it can debut soon.

Hot Chelle Rae make their comeback this week as they bring us I Hate LA.  I’m not too familiar with most of their music, given that I haven’t really heard them back in the day.  But I kinda dig that new song of theirs.  The instrumentation is pretty solid and I quite like their vocals.  Not much else I can say after that.

– Who remembers Sofi Tukker?  You know, the duo who bought us Best Friend from two years ago?  No?  Well, they makes their return with her new single Purple Hat.  It took me a few listens, but I can say that I actually like this quite a bit.  The beat is cool and I like the rest of the song here.  That’s all I have to say about this one.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Alex Aiono – Big Mistake: A good first impression for this new artist.  I like the production here and his voice sounds good.  I haven’t heard much from him since he released this, mostly because he is irrelevant.  I’m interested to see what he brings.

Ariana Grande – Breathin’: Another highlight off of Sweetener.  Too bad it’s momentum ended up stalling elsewhere following the abrupt release of Thank U, Next.  But I’m glad this was able to become a moderate hit and it’ll likely be on the Year-End list for 2019 (on Billboard).

Ed Sheeran & Khalid (1) – Week Of November 2, 2019

ESJ3Hello, fam!  Yes, I know.  This is a late post.  My apologies.  I kinda got busy during the week with some other stuff.  Plus, laziness became a weakness this week.  It’s just one of those weeks where I didn’t get the post out on time.  But here it is.  Anyway, we’re now in the month of Novemeber! Only two more months to go until we start the new decade! Man, I honestly can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year! Excitement is definitely in the air.  What will the final two months bring us besides Thanksgiving and Christmas?  We’ll just have to make it through. So, TWENTY ØNE PILØTS did the Weekend Takeover as they hosted both Hit-Bound and the Weekend Countdown. There’s quite a lot to talk about this week, so let’s jump in. #1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Imagine Dragons – Natural (1st And Only Week At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Post Malone featuring Young Thug – Goodbyes (–17)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Ed Sheeran featuring Khalid – Beautiful People (+11)

New Entrants:
– To jumpstart our new round of arrivals for the first weekend of November, we have newcomer and Austrailian act Tones And I with a song titled Dance Monkey.  I kinda loathed this one at first, but it has been growing on me over time.  This was a massive hit in most countries, and it looks like North America is following suit and likely making this a hit here as well.  I still don’t quite like her voice in a way.  But I find everything else about the song pretty decent.  I like the hook here and the bass pulls me in.  Not much I can say beyond that at this moment.  I have it in blue, but it’s closer to green.

– Ok, so who’s next?  Let’s see here…oh boy.  We have more of AJR with their latest single from Neotheater, by the name Dear Winter.  Apparently, Hits 1 has fallen in love with these guys despite their music being garbage.  Dear Winter is really not that different   I’ll say that it’s a lot better than what these guys had before.  But even then, saying it’s a lot better actually isn’t saying much at all.  Yeah sure, I can get behind the guitar.  But the songwriting is still not good and I don’t really like the guy’s voice.  That’s really all I can say about this one right now.  I’m still not sold on their music in general and this song doesn’t change things.  I’m hoping it doesn’t last too long here.

Best Debut Of The Week: Tones And I – Dance Monkey

Blurb Monkey
– We’ll begin with our two exits.  To start, there’s Jesus In LA which I didn’t really care about.  ME! was one that I liked from the start and it was an interesting collaboration between Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie even though there were some cheesy lines.  It would’ve been nice if it had hit #1 for one week, but #2 is good enough.

– Before introducing Goodbyes, they mentioned that Post Malone was voted “Most Likely To Be Famous” in high school.  Well, it has happened.  Post has indeed become famous in music ever since he broke out in 2016.

– I have a bad feeling that Dream Boy isn’t going to last much longer, unfortunately.  It was nice to have it around while it lasted.

– It doesn’t look like Roaring 20s is going to stick around either.  That I’m okay with given that it’s one of the weakest Pray For The Wicked has to offer.  There are better songs from that album.  Also, Brendon Urie and company have released a new song from the Frozen 2 movie soundtrack.  I plan on listening to that and in the future, I might give out my thoughts.

– We did get big jumps from Stack It Up and Teeth this week.  I can’t really see Stack It Up lasting too long here, and I’ll be fine with that.  As for Teeth, I’m sure it’ll stick around given that Hits 1 still loves 5 Seconds Of Summer.  But we never know for sure.

– Good thing Cool slipped a bit after the unnecessary jump into the Top 10 last week.  Can it just go soon?

– All the songs from #15-#11 held their positions this week.

– And finally, let’s get to our new #1…and wowzers!  Beautiful People made a massive jump from #16 all the way to #1 this week.  Color me surprised.  I definitely wasn’t expecting that after it took a big hit last week.  But I’m cool with that as it is a really good song and a million times better than Someone You Loved.  This is one of the best No. 6 Collaborations Project has to offer, aside from BLOW.

Hit-Bound:

  • Selena Gomez – Look At Her Now
  • Harry Styles – Lights Up
  • Meghan Trainor featuring Mike Sabath – Wave
  • Kesha featuring Big Freedia – Raising Hell
  • Lewis Capaldi – Hold Me While You Wait

  • Billie Eilish – All The Good Girls Go To Hell
  • Marshmello featuring Kane Brown – One Thing Right
  • OneRepublic – Wanted (DEBUT)
  • Ariana Grande featuring Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey – Don’t Call Me Angel

Entrant Reviews:
– Speaking of No. 6 Collaborations Project, we get another single from the album in the form of South Of The Border.  I like the verses we get from both Camila and Cardi B.  They have good chemistry and the production is pretty decent.  Overall, it’s a good song.

– Then, there’s OneRepublic with Wanted.  It’s a bit of a step down from Rescue Me in terms of the production.  Ryan Tedder sounds pretty good here.  But I don’t find the rest of the song too interesting for me.  I don’t know.  It’s not bad, but they’ve had better.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
The Struts featuring Kesha – Body Talks: I think this is divine on all levels. The great instrumentation and Kesha’s amazing voice help make this an enjoyable listen.

TWENTY ØNE PILØTS – My Blood: Not as good as some of the other deep cuts from Trench, but it does show how talented Tyler Joseph is vocally and lyrically.  I like the instrumentation here as well.

Tiësto & Dzeko featuring Preme and Post Malone – Jackie Chan: I think this is pretty cool for an EDM single, and the best thing about it is that it’s named after the actor himself.  I’ll bet he would dance to this.

Pitbull featuring Theron Theron – Free Free Free: This kinda burned on me a little bit, mostly because I just didn’t find it interesting after more listens.  I’m not really fond of Theron Theron’s voice, and Pitbull doesn’t put on his best performance here.  But if it’s anything, I’d rather hear this than Ocean To Ocean.

Benny Blanco featuring Halsey and Khalid – Eastside: A good first impression for Benny Blanco, and as it stands right now it’s his only good song in my opinion.  Halsey and Khalid both sound good here and it shows how talented these guys are.

AT40: Lewis Capaldi (1) – Week Of November 2, 2019

New Entrants:
– The Jonas Brothers have been a big name throughout 2019 following their reunion.  They gave us their biggest hit of their career in the form of Sucker, which was their first #1 on Billboard and an 8-time #1 song on the AT40, while breaking the record for most weeks at #1 on Hits 1 with 13 weeks total.  And by the looks of it, their momentum will likely carry on into 2020 with Only Human continuing its ascent towards the top.  Now, they’re taking advantage of their popularity as they team up with Diplo in their single Lonely.  Diplo has done some good work and there are songs that I enjoyed, but I’m not entirely sure what Diplo was going for here.  The relatively weak guitar and the weird drop doesn’t make this a fun listen.  Then, you have the Jonas Brothers here, who don’t put on a performance that’s even exceptional.  Yeah, I’m not feeling this.  Diplo is so much more talented than this.  NEXT!

– A couple years ago, we saw Justin Bieber cross-over to the Latin genre as he was part of the Despacito remix which was one of the biggest hits of 2017.  This year, he makes his arrival to the country genre as he teams of with the duo of Dan + Shay in 10,000 Hours.  The country duo took what they used in their previous singles and added on to this song.  The nice harmonies and the great use of guitars help make the song a pleasurable listen.  Coupled with the fact that there’s good chemistry between them and Justin, and you’ve got a nice song here.  Lyrically, I like how creavity these guys can be.  They showed it in their music and they show it here as well.  Obviously, it doesn’t quite hit the height of Tequila and Speechless.  But it still is a good song and I’m glad it’s their highest peaking song on Billboard.

Best Debut Of The Week: 10,000 Hours by Dan + Shay featuring Justin Bieber

10,000 Blurbs
– First off, good riddance to those two exits. Boyfriend thankfully didn’t take off.  Ariana Grande is a amazing singer.  But she doesn’t show it here at all and I’m glad that we were able to say goodbye to it.  Shamless wasn’t good either, so I’m happy that it left early.  Yeah, none of those exits will be missed.  NEXT!

– We have a new #1 this week and it goes to Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi because of course.  This is really not a good way to start off November on the AT40.  I went back and forth on my relationship towards the song, but now I’ve had it.  His voice is just not good and I can’t stand how high he hits those notes.  This has no business being a #1 song.  Fortunately, a really good song is coming to take its place on Billboard next week.

– Only Human reaches a new peak of #4 this week.  I’m cool with this being another hit for the Jonas Brothers as opposed to…well, Cool.  We’ll see how much momentum it’ll gain.

– Two songs from Post Malone swapped places this week.  Circles enters the Top 5 while Goodbyes drops out.  I’m okay with Circles staying in that region for a while since I kinda like the song.  Goodbyes, however, I’m getting pretty damn sick of.  I would like for that one to start moving down.

– 7 Rings has finally dropped to the bottom of the countdown, which is good news.  I’m hoping this song can leave soon.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Song About You by Mike Posner: Eh, not a whole lot I can say about this one.  I kinda like his voice here, but everything else just feels a little empty to me.  It’s better than some of his newer stuff for sure.
Sicko Mode by Travis Scott featuring Drake: Easily the worst single off of Astroworld and I really don’t think one can argue otherwise.  I’ll probably have more to say about this in a month or so.
Without Me by Halsey: Once again, more on this next month in my Year-End posts.  I initially loathed it, but I’ve kinda came around to the song over time.  It’s a lot better than Nightmare for sure.
