New Entrants:
– So, we have two songs that debuted straight to the countdown this week. First up is newcomer Lewis Capaldi with a piano ballad called Someone You Loved. I do like what the song is supposed to be about. It basically talks about love and we’ve have a lot of songs like these nowadays. I think his voice is okay, but he doesn’t really stand out to me. But I do like the piano work here and the lyrics are nicely done. I might grow into this one, but I don’t see it sticking with me in the long run.

– Next, Alessia Cara returns with her latest single titled Out Of Love. Earlier, she gave us Growing Pains, which I did like. But then, there was Trust My Lonely, which was not good and thus was one of my least favorite singles from her. As far as her album goes, I was pretty mixed on it for the most part. But Out Of Love is a good song. Like Someone You Loved, this one is also a piano ballad. I like her voice in this one, and the lyrics are nice. I’ve been a fan of Alessia, and I can say I kinda like the song overall.

– We have the return of NOTD, and they’re collaborating with Felix Jaehn, Captain Cuts, and Georgia Ku in their latest single titled So Close. Last year, the EDM duo introduced themselves to the world when they collaborated with Bea Miller in I Wanna Know. I did like that one at first, but I realized it wasn’t all that special. As far as So Close goes, I think it’s a step up from that. Production-wise, I like the beat and I think these guys did a nice job in that aspect. My concern is that I’m not a big fan of Georgia Ku’s voice. I don’t think she stands out. While it is better than its predecessor, it’s not really something I’ll come back to in the long run.

– Up next, we have the return of MAX and he teams up with Quinn XCII with Love Me Less. I’m not really the biggest fan of what MAX has to offer when it comes to his music. I will say that Love Me Less is better than Lights Down Low. I like his voice here, but I’m not feeling the production and the beat isn’t too interesting. Quinn XCII doesn’t really contribute to much of the song. Overall, I find this to be okay. It’s not really special.

– The best debut of the week comes from Billie Eilish, and she makes her very first appearance with Bury A Friend. Unlike most people in the blogging community, I’m actually into her music. I think she has a mysterious voice and she uses it well, though it took me a while to grow into the song. Sure, there may not be much to the production. But it is really her voice that impresses me, even though it doesn’t sit well with most people. So yeah, I really like this and I hope it can stick around.

Best Debut Of The Week: Billie Eilish – Bury A Friend

Would You Blurb Me Less?
– We’ll start with our exits. First, we have two songs that’ll be missed by me. Miss Me More was something I loved and is one of Kelsea’s best solo singles, and GIRL was an amazing lead single for Maren’s latest album. It’s too bad both of them didn’t do very well. I do like Please Me as well, but I’m too disappointed about it leaving, seeing as that one never really took off. Love Lies and Youngblood have both been here for a while, but they did have great countdown runs so I’m happy with their respective success.

– It was nice to see 2002 fall all the way to the bottom of the countdown. That song has definitely overstayed its welcome. I do wish the song would end up leaving soon.

Dumb Blonde took quite a big drop in its third week of its tenure. I would say I’m disappointed about this. But given that not very many people care about Avril Lavigne right now, I’m not all that surprised.

– Can we please not with Happier and Let Me Down Slowly?!?! Why are they jumping? Hopefully, Hits 1 can fix this soon because this is seriously not okay. We have better songs that deserve to be in the Top 10 than these two.

Hit-Bound:

  • SZA featuring The Weeknd and Travis Scott – Power Is Power
  • Billie Eilish – Bad Guy
  • Bazzi – Paradise
  • Taylor Swift featuring Brendon Urie – ME! (DEBUT)

  • Jordan McGraw – Flexible

Entrant Reviews:
– Our only Hit-Bound entrant comes from the interesting collaboration between Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie with their brand new single titled ME!. I’ll say that this is a much better comeback single for Taylor Swift than Look What You Made Me Do, which I’m indifferent on. ME! basically reminds me of some of her earlier singles. I love her voice in this one and the production is just neat. I’ll have much more on this when it inevitably debuts.

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tie between Lil Peep featuring iLoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy and Ariana Grande – Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored (+10)

New Entrants:

– There’s only one new song debuting this week, and unfortunately it is my least favorite song of the year so far. Lil Nas X makes his first appearance on the countdown with the remix of the song Old Town Road, which features Billy Ray Cyrus. As you may recall, the solo version charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs since the beginning of this year. But for whatever reason they decided to take it off that chart. He would later release a remix to the song with Billy Ray Cyrus, which ended up at #1 on the Hot 100. Anyway, everything about the song is terrible. The production is just awful and the trap beat is just grating. The lyrical content is just pointless. I do not like Lil Nas X’s voice at all. He just doesn’t sound good. Billy didn’t add much to the remix. I think his voice is okay, but he doesn’t stand out in any part of the song. This is the farthest thing from country and it’s the worst song  I’ve heard in the country genre since Body Like A Back Road. As of right now, it is my least favorite song of the year and it does not deserve to be on the countdown.

Old Town Blurbs
– So, we say farewell to Grandson – Apologize. I didn’t exactly cared for the song in the big picture. I’ll say that I liked the instrumentation, but nothing else about the song really stood out to me. So, I’m okay with its departure.

– Our Top 5 remains the same, so there’s really nothing to talk about there.

– I’m very pleased by our two Top 10 entrants. Speechless and Dancing With A Stranger both deserve to be in that region. It’s nice to see the former catch on much like Tequila, and the latter is now my new favorite song on the countdown. That one has gotten better with each listen. Hopefully, both songs will stay there for a while.

– It is also very pleasing to see that 7 Rings had the Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week this week. I’m glad this didn’t hit #1 here. Hopefully, we’ll see it leave the countdown soon.

Hit-Bound:

  • Jennifer Lopez featuring French Montana – Medicine
  • Alec Benjamin – If We Have Each Other
  • Kygo featuring Valerie Broussard – Think About You
  • Jordan McGraw – Flexible
  • The Chainsmokers – Kills You Slowly
  • Jonas Brothers – Cool
  • SZA featuring The Weeknd and Travis Scott – Power Is Power (DEBUT)
  • Panic! At The Disco – Dancing’s Not A Crime
  • MAX featuring Quinn XCII – Love Me Less
  • Billie Eilish – Bad Guy (DEBUT)
  • Louis Tomlinson – Two Of Us
  • Ava Max – So Am I
  • BTS featuring Halsey – Boy With Luv
  • lovelytheband – Maybe, I’m Afraid
  • Bazzi – Paradise (DEBUT)

Entrant Reviews:
– We have the return of SZA who is collaborating between The Weeknd and Travis Scott with their new single Power Is Power, which is taken from the Game Of Thrones soundtrack. Yeah, everything about the song is just spot on. This reminds me of Pray For Me, which I loved. I love the vocals in this one and the production is neat. I’ll be looking forward to seeing that one debut soon.

– Next, we have Billie Eilish who replaces herself on Hit-Bound with Bad Guy. I won’t quite say its as good as her other singles. But I still like it mainly because of her unique voice. That’s all I have for this one.

– Finally, we have the return of Bazzi with his latest single titled Paradise. Not much I can say about this one. I do like his voice here, but something about the production just doesn’t click with me. I’m not sure why. It’s not nearly as good as Mine, which I thought had more to it.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Portugal. The Man – Live In The Moment: This is a step up from Feel It Still, in large part because there’s more going on with the production. In addition, they sound much better when singing the chorus. Too bad this didn’t last long on the countdown.
NOTD featuring Bea Miller – I Wanna Know: I actually liked this when it was new. But after many listens, it’s just not really special anymore. I like her voice for the most part. But the production was just a little too basic here.
ZAYN – Let Me: Not too much I can say about this one. I feel like it’s a step down from Dusk Till Dawn. I kinda like his voice here and the lyrics are nice. But ultimately, it just didn’t stick with me in the long run.

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Tie between Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande, Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max, and Without Me by Halsey (–2)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Tie between When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish and Sucker by Jonas Brothers (+5)

New Entrants:
– This is another week of not-so great debuts. We’ll start with Benny Blanco who has yet another song making its debut. He collaborates with Tainy, Selena Gomez, and J. Balvin in their single called I Can’t Get Enough. Benny has impressed me with Eastside, which I still love. But since then, his latest singles have not appealed to me. Earlier this year, he gave us I Found You, which was pretty mediocre. Now, he has I Can Get Enough, which I think is the worst thing he has released. There’s nothing really interesting about the song. The production here is basic and at times, underwhelming. The Latin vibe is just not good. It just shows that Benny did not do a good job in the production department. The verses we get from these artists are also pretty underwhelming. To put it short, this is just not a good song. Let’s move on.

– Next, we have more of the Jonas Brothers with their latest single titled Cool. There’s not a whole lot I can say about this one. Based on the first listen, I think it is a bit of a step down from Sucker, which is a little more upbeat. Sure, the vocals are good and the instrumentation is nice. But it’s really not special by any means. There’s just something about it that doesn’t quite wow me yet. Maybe I’ll get into it with more listens. But right now, I think it’s only decent.

– Last and definitely least, we have my new worst song of the year so far. And it comes from Lil Nas X with Old Town Road. He just recently released the remix with Billy Ray Cyrus, which is currently #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. For those who don’t know, the solo version was on the Hot Country Songs chart at one point in time. But it was removed for whatever reason. So in response, he decided to release the remix. I guess Billy Ray Cyrus wanted to help him out a bit. But anyway, there’s a lot wrong with the song, one of which being the production overall. I hate the guitar and the trap beat is not interesting at all. His voice is terrible and his verses have no momentum of any kind whatsoever. The lyrical content is just dumb and pointless. So yeah, this is just garbage and as of right now, it is my least favorite song of the year. Though, that may change as the year continues to go along. We’ll see.

Best Debut Of The Week: Cool by Jonas Brothers

I Can’t Blurb Enough
– Let’s talk about our exits first. To begin, Bad Liar left pretty early. I was hoping that one would catch on especially following the success of Natural. But of course, it ended up getting underrated instead, and it’s a shame because I like the song. I was starting to grow out of Broken, but it had a decent run for a band who’s not known elsewhere (outside of alternative). Tequila was probably one of the best country songs I’ve heard in a while, and I was kinda happy about the success it got. While I know there are some who will be happy about it leaving, I’m not one of them.

– It’s nice to see Sucker quickly make its way to the Top 5. Even though I don’t quite enjoy the song as much as some people, I do hope that it ends up replacing our current #1, which just continues to get worse with each listen.

– On that note, I would like to see Dancing With A Stranger hit #1 at some point, or maybe even Sweet But Psycho. Hopefully, one of those two end up getting there.

– There wasn’t much movement on the AT40 for the week, except for big jumps from Sucker and When The Party’s Over, which were the highlights.

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: The Middle by Zedd featuring Maren Morris and Grey (1st of 4 Weeks At #1)

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Tequila by Dan + Shay (–15)

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Tie between Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At The Disco and Shallow by Lady Gaga featuring Bradley Cooper (+6)

New Entrants:
– We have two not-so interesting debuts for the week. To begin, we have Khalid with his next single titled Talk. I remember first hearing the song when it was on the YouTube 15 a while back. It’s a bit of a step down from its predecessor. While I like Khalid’s voice in general, he doesn’t exactly shine here in the song. I find the production to be a little underwhelming. Something about it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe this will end up growing on me, but right now I just find this okay.

– Then, we have the return of Lauv and he’s collaborating with Troye Sivan in their latest single titled I’m So Tired…. I have not been very fond of Lauv’s music. Last year, he gave us I Like Me Better which was one of my worst songs for 2018. As far as his latest single goes, it’s not quite as bad. But it is still underwhelming overall. I’ll admit the production is okay and not as cringe-worthy as in I Like Me Better. But Lauv’s voice doesn’t sound good here. I’m not feeling the lyrics. Troye couldn’t save the song unfortunately. I do like his part here, though. But that’s the only good thing about it. So yeah, this is just plain bad and I hope it doesn’t last long here.

Best Debut Of The Week: Talk by Khalid

Can We Just Blurb?
– As far as our two exits go, we say goodbye to 365. That one didn’t really take off unlike The Middle which was one of the biggest hits of last year. While I didn’t quite loved 365 as much as I did The Middle, it was still pretty fun overall. We also say goodbye to God Is A Woman. As controversial as the song was, I loved it (and I still do) mainly because Ariana has a great voice and she shines in the chorus. I’m glad it was successful. That song will be missed by me.

– Yikes! Tequila made a massive drop all the way down to #40. Looks like the song’s tenure is coming to an end unfortunately. It had a decent run on most charts and it was pretty successful. So I’m happy about that.

– It was only a matter of time before Sucker made its way into the Top 10. This is definitely going to be #1 soon, and I’ll be fine with that.

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! of the Week: Post Malone featuring Swae Lee – Sunflower (–23)

Biggest Jump of the Week: Post Malone – Wow. (+13)

New Entrants:
– To kick things off, we have a newcomer making her first appearance on the Weekend Countdown. FLETCHER brings us her single titled Undrunk. This was on the YouTube 15 earlier this year and I gave a brief review of the song. I thought it was pretty good for the most part. But it has gotten better with each listen. I think FLETCHER has a good voice and she uses it well in the song. The production is pretty neat, and the lyrical content is well written. Overall, I’m in love with the song.

– Next, we have more of Marshmello, and this time around, he collaborates with the alternative band CHVRCHES in their latest single called Here With Me. I personally think this is a step up from what Marshmello had done previously. Friends was just straight up garbage and one of my least favorite songs of last year, and Happier isn’t very good either. As far as Here With Me goes, the production is better. Marshmello did a nice job overall as a DJ. Lauren Bradberry’s voice is amazing. I think she shines in the chorus. I do like the lyrics as well. So yeah, this is really good and I hope to see it do well.

– We have the return of Ciara with her comeback single titled Thinkin Bout You. We haven’t heard much of Ciara in a while. This is just fun! Although it can be repetitive at times, I do like everything about it. Ciara doesn’t disappoint me with her voice at all. I love the chorus in this one, and the production here is just awesome. I hope it ends up being successful.

– Next, we have an interesting collaboration between two artists: Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj. They give us their single titled Dumb Blonde. When I first heard about a possible collaboration between those two, I was interested coming in. After listening to the song in full, I was happy with the way it turned out. Avril sounds good here. I like the verse we get from Nicki Minaj. I think she has a good flow here. The production is pretty solid as well. Sure, it may be controversial on its own. But everything about the song works well.

– Last and definitely least, we have Ariana Grande with another single from Thank U, Next called Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored. I’ll say that it is a step up from 7 Rings. But that’s not saying too much because there’s nothing about the song that really appeals to me. I don’t like the lyrics and I hate the beat. However, I do like her voice and she sounds better here. That’s probably the only redeeming quality I can say about the song. So yeah, not a good song overall.

Best Debut Of The Week: Ciara – Thinkin Bout You

I’ve Been Thinkin Bout Blurbs
– Our five exits for the week mostly comes from songs that deserved to go. Hurts Like Hell was a step down from its predecessor that I liked last year. I wasn’t really fond of Genius even though it’s slightly better than most of LSD’s music. It’s about time we got rid of the atrocious mess that is of I’m A Mess. I genuinely hope to never have to suffer through this song again. The Way I Am had been here for a while and I was ready for that one to leave. With that, this is the first time we don’t have any songs from Charlie Puth on the countdown. The only song that I’m really sad about leaving is All The Ways. It’s a damn shame that Meghan Trainor’s music is underrated. That song deserves better in my opinion. But of course, it’s just not meant to be.

– Seriously, Hits 1? Was is really a good idea to allow songs like Eastside and Sunflower (especially the former) to drop this many spots?!?! I’m definitely not okay with this. I hope they hang around for a little while longer.

GIRL and Miss Me More aren’t doing as well as I hoped, which is very disappointing because I find both of the songs to be amazing. But at least they’re here. It’s a shame because both Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris are very talented singers.

– On that note, Tequila took a massive drop this week as well. I can’t really say that’s disappointing to me because it has had a nice run on this countdown. I still enjoy the song, however. We’ll see how long it can stick around.

– In it’s place, we have Speechless making it back to the Top 20. That I’m definitely cool with. It’s just as good as its predecessor. I’m glad it is still here.

Entrant Reviews:
– We’ll kick things off with my new least favorite song of the year so far. It’s from Lil Nas X and he brings us the remix of Old Town Road with Billy Ray Cyrus. I won’t really go in-depth about it’s origins. But I’ll tell you that the remix just recently came out and thus, it ended up hitting #1 on Billboard. As far as the song goes, everything about it is shit. I hate the beat and his vocals are terrible. Billy Ray Cyrus himself doesn’t sound good in the remix. As of right now, it is my least favorite song of the year. I’ll talk more about it in the next post.

– Up next, we have a collaboration between the K-Pop band BTS and Halsey in the remix of Boy With Luv. There’s really nothing I like about the song for the most part. While the production is okay, the rest of the song is just unappealing. Halsey is a non-factor in the song even though she is featured in it. More on this when it debuts.

– With Alec Benjamin hosting that weekend, he brings us his new single titled If We Have Each Other. I do think this is a step up from Let Me Down Slowly. Although I’m not too fond of his voice, he does sound slightly better in the song. I think this song has a better chance of growing on me than its predecessor.

– Next, we have the return of Jennifer Lopez, and she collaborates with French Montana in their new single titled Medicine. Earlier this year, she gave us Limitless, which I did like. I can pretty much say the same for Medicine. I think Jennifer sounds good here and French Montana’s contribution is solid as well. Do I think it’s her best song overall? Not really, she has had better. But this is still a good song and I hope to see it debut soon.

– Lastly, we have more of The Chainsmokers with their next single called Kills You Slowly. I can’t say I’m loving this one. I’m not a fan of Drew’s voice in the song. He just doesn’t sound good. The production is not very good here, either. I feel like they put forth a lazy effort with the song. I’ll talk more about the song should it debut.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Drake – God’s Plan: This was Drake’s biggest hit this past year and the #1 song of 2018 on Billboard. Despite this, it didn’t do so well on Hits 1. There’s really nothing about the song that appeals to me. But if anything, he has done a lot worse than this.

AT40: Ariana Grande (3) – Week Of April 13, 2019

Hello, guys! So, I’m back once again. I know it’s been rough for me for the past month or so. But I just want to let you guys know that I do have a life outside of blogging. Work is just killing me right now. Again, like I said before, I do hope things will be back to normal soon. You’ll just have to bear with me for the time being. Biggest Fall Of The Week: Thank U, Next by Ariana Grande (–6)
Biggest Jump Of The Week: Here With Me by Marshmello featuring CHVRCHES (+10)
New Entrants:
– We’ll start with a newcomer that’s been making music since last year. Billie Eilish makes her appearance with When The Party’s Over. I know it’s a unpopular opinion, but I’m actually fond of most of what Billie Eilish has to offer. I like her unique voice in this one, even though the production is not there (outside of the piano work). I also think the lyrics are pretty solid. Overall, I can say I enjoy the song.
– Up next, we get the return of Alessia Cara with her next single from The Pains Of Growing, titled Out Of Love. I will say that this is a step up from Trust My Lonely, which I wasn’t a big fan of for the most part. The song is simply a piano ballad, and I have a thing for piano ballads. I like her voice. She sounds better in this song than Trust My Lonely. The lyrical content is also nice. My only concern is that the production can be a little underwhelming in some parts of the song, but I do like the piano work, though. I can definitely see this one growing on me with time. But right now, I find the song to be okay.

– Following the success of High Hopes, we get another single from Panic! At The Disco titled Hey Look Ma, I Made It. I’ve been enjoying that song ever since Hits 1 first picked it up and I still do today. I like the lyrics about one’s journey to success. I love the production with the horns and his voice sounds great as usual. Overall, after hearing this for a while, I can safely say it’s one of the best singles off of Pray For The Wicked. I’m glad he chose it as a single.

Best Debut Of The Week: Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At The Disco

Out Of Blurbs
– On the note of exits, Damn by LIVVIA only lasted a mere two weeks. I do like that song, but I’m not too disappointed about its departure. I wasn’t too fond of Sue Me, so I’m okay with it leaving. Finally, we lost This Feeling, which I’m sad about considering this is the best song The Chainsmokers’ have released since Closer. It did okay in its tenure by reaching the Top 10, so I’m pretty pleased about that.

– I’m not thrilled about the arrival of Wow. by Post Malone in the Top 10. While it’s not the worst song he has released, there’s nothing about it that really appeals to me. He has done better.

Thank U, Next dropped out of the Top 10 relatively quickly, which I’m okay with because I’m starting to lose interest in that song. However, I’d much rather see that song still in the Top 10 than her two recent singles, both of which are not good.

– I do like the jump we get from Here With Me this week. It’s a solid song overall and I’ve been enjoying it lately. I would like to see that one become a success like his two predecessors.

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Zedd featuring Maren Morris and Grey – The Middle (5th of 9 Weeks At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Meghan Trainor – All The Ways (–16)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Austin Brown – In Betweenin’ (+18)

New Entrants:
– We’ll begin our new round of entrants with a song that’s been around since the start of the year. Here, we have Lizzo bringing us her single titled Juice. Right off the bat, the song is just a fun retro jam. When I listen to her voice, it kinds reminds me of a singer from the soul/R&B genre that I grew up listening to. It fits her well for a song that has a funky vibe. The production is just solid all around. So yeah, I’m in love with this one. Hopefully, it sticks around for a little while.

– Our next debut of the week comes from another member of Fifth Harmony who has a solo single. Ally Brooke makes her debut with Low Key. With that, all of the members of the group have released their solo music. I think Normani is the best out of all of them, with Lauren Jauregui coming in a close second. Dinah Jane is decent for the most part. I have very mixed feelings about Camila Cabello, but she has released some good songs. So, where does Ally Brooke stand in my opinion, you might ask? Well, I personally think she is a talented singer. But she doesn’t show it in the song. She sounds pretty underwhelming in the chorus. The lyrics aren’t really any good. The song also features Tyga, who doesn’t add much to the song whatsoever. Luckily, Hits 1 did edit out his verse, but it doesn’t really change my opinion on the song. Yeah, I’m not fond of this. Honestly, I expected more out of Ally. But this is just disappointing overall and frankly, not very good. And it’s very sad because I like her. Oh well.

– Finally, we have more of Bebe Rexha with her next single making its debut on the countdown, by the name of Last Hurrah. I’ve been waiting for her to release the follow-up to I’m A Mess, which I still loathe with great intensity. And after hearing this song, I found it to be a massive step up from that.

Best Debut Of The Week: Lizzo – Juice

Gotta Blame It On My Blurbs
– In terms of our exits for the week, Harry lasted only two weeks on the countdown, thus making this the shortest-tenured song on the countdown so far this year. But it really wasn’t that good of a song, so I’m happy about it leaving. Girls Like You lasted a long time here, and while it was something I kinda grew into it wasn’t really memorable in the long run. Lastly, there’s 365, which I loved. It’s too bad it didn’t get as big as The Middle, which was a huge hit in 2018. Oh well.

– Did we really need Let Me Down Slowly back in the Top 5?!?! I’d like to think not. I personally think there are better songs that are worthy of being in that region over that song.

– On that note, we have This Feeling back in the Top 10, which is very nice to see. I still absolutely love the song, so I certainly wouldn’t mind it staying in the Top 10 for as long as it wants.

– The massive jumps from In Betweenin’ and Walk Me Home were no surprise. The former is one I’m not thrilled about. The latter, on the other hand, is one I’m okay with even though it isn’t nearly P!NK’s best song.

– Speaking of Kelsea Ballerini, it looks like Miss Me More is dying out on this countdown. She definitely deserves more recognition outside of Hits 1. One would think that since This Feeling was a multi-week #1, her solo single would follow suit. But that is unfortunately not the case.

– On the note of big drops, All The Ways fell down to the Bottom 10 at #39. It was expected, but it’s still highly disappointing, especially since I love the song. Of course, this had to be underrated.

Hit-Bound:

  • Kygo featuring Valerie Broussard – Think About You
  • lovelytheband – Maybe, I’m Afraid
  • Jordan McGraw – Flexible (DEBUT)
  • Ariana Grande – Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored

  • Ava Max – So Am I
  • FLETCHER – Undrunk
  • Louis Tomlinson – Two Of Us
  • NOTD featuring Felix Jaehn, Captain Cuts, and Georgia Ku – So Close

Entrant Reviews:
– On this week’s edition of Hit-Bound, we have a song from the song of Dr. Phil who makes an appearance. Jordan McGraw has a song titled Flexible. The production is a little weird and I’m not really feeling his voice. That’s all I have to say about this one.
– Up next is more of the Jonas Brothers with their newer single they just released, by the name of Cool. I do like the production in this one, and I think the vocals are nice. But the lyrics are pretty questionable, hence why it’s in blue for now. I much prefer their current #1 song as of this moment. Still, Cool isn’t too bad of a song.

– Finally, we have the return of MAX, and he’s collaborating with Quinn XCII in his brand new single titled Love Me Less. I’ve never really cared for MAX’s music, unlike some people here. I kinda like his voice for the most part, but the production isn’t really the best here, and Quinn XCII doesn’t sound good with his verse. More on this when it debuts.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Rudimental featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore, and Dan Caplen – These Days: For a EDM group who are not relevant in music, this is actually solid across the board. What I like about it most is the lyrical content, which is well-written. This is probably the best thing they’ve done so far.
Alice Merton – No Roots: This song is unique in almost every way. Alice has an interesting voice, and that bass, combined with the groove, is a killer.

AT40: Ariana Grande (2) – Week Of April 6, 2019

Biggest Fall Of The Week: Sicko Mode by Travis Scott featuring Drake (–3)
Biggest Rise Of The Week: Last Hurrah by Bebe Rexha (+8)
New Entrants:
– Our first debut comes from Marshmello, who has the follow-up to Happier that I’ve been waiting for. He collaborates with the band CHVRCHES in their latest single titled Here With Me. This is a step up from his previous singles. Marshmello showed me that he is talented as a DJ producer, unlike in songs such as Friends, which was my #3 least favorite song of 2018. I like Lauren Mayberry’s voice. She sounds good in the chorus. Overall it is a good song and I hope to see it have some success.
– Next, we get another member of Fifth Harmony going solo. This time, Ally Brooke gives us her single titled Low Key. With her debut, all the members of Fifth Harmony have released their solo music. I came in with pretty decent expectations because I think Ally Brooke is a talented singer. But when I listened to the song in its entirety, it just fell short. Ally doesn’t really sound too good with her voice. She doesn’t really stand out in any part of the song. The production is okay, but it’s not really special. We also get a verse from Tyga, who is also featured in the song. He doesn’t contribute to the song at all. So yeah, I don’t like this song. I expected more out of Ally, but this is just disappointing and frankly, not good.

– Finally, we have a newcomer making her first appearance on the countdown. Her name is Mabel and she has a song titled Don’t Call Me Up. I don’t really have much I can say about the song. I kinda like her voice, but I feel like the production isn’t special and I find it to be underwhelming in some parts of the song. Of course, my opinion on the song will change with more listens. But right now, I find it to be okay.

Best Debut Of The Week: Here With Me by Marshmello featuring CHVRCHES

Don’t Blurb Me Up
– As far as our exits go, good riddance to Hurts Like Hell and Lucid Dreams, especially the latter. That one was long overdue and I’m glad that I genuinely don’t have to suffer through this song again. Hurts Like Hell was a step down to Home With You, which I liked. I’m glad that one didn’t become a hit. The only exit I’m sad about is Swan Song. I feel like that one deserved better. But of course, I guess people have decided it’s time to move on from Dua Lipa. Oh well.

– We get a Top 5 entrant from Better by Khalid. It’s a good song, but I don’t really think it’s worthy of the #1 spot, unlike Love Lies which I enjoyed. Still, anything is better than our current #1 song.

– The big jump from Lash Hurrah is very pleasing. This is one of Bebe Rexha’s better songs and that is more deserving of being a hit. I hope it can keep jumping.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Delicate by Taylor Swift: This was the only song from Reputation to actually do well chart-wise, in part because it’s the type of song people like to hear from her. I like her voice and the production is solid. After much thought, I can now say that it’s one of my favorite singles from her album.
Psycho by Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign: While it’s not as bad as Rockstar, I find this to be simply underwhelming all around. Ty Dolla $ign doesn’t contribute to the song at all, and Post Malone doesn’t sound good with his voice. Not helping matters is the production, which is pretty lifeless.

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Lady Gaga featuring Bradley Cooper – Shallow (+21)

New Entrants:
– So, we’ve got two new entrants to cover for this week. First, we have newcomer Austin Brown with the song In Betweenin’. I feel like the song had potential to be solid, but overall it didn’t quite do it for me. The production is good and I like the beat. But Austin’s voice is just a little too childish, and that’s what bought it down for me. I don’t have much more I can say beyond that. So yeah, the song is okay. But his voice just needs a little work.

– Next is the comeback single from P!NK after about a year. This time, she brings us Walk Me Home. I’ve been a fan of P!NK ever since she was relevant at the start of the 21st Century. Songs like Get The Party Started, Raise Your Glass, and Just Give Me A Reason are all very good songs. Walk Me Home is a little weaker compared to those songs, though it’s definitely a good song for the most part. I like her voice as usual, and the lyrics are pretty solid. The production is good, though not quite as amazing. It may not stick with me in the long run, but right now I’m enjoying this.

Best Debut Of The Week: P!NK – Walk Me Home

Blurb Me Home In The Dead Of Night
– We’ll start with our two exits. First, Sue Me wasn’t very interesting, so I’m kinda glad that it left. But then there’s Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, which was a good comeback single for the Backstreet Boys. It was nice to hear from them again after a long while. The song showed me that they can still make good music and their new album is pretty solid. It had a good run while it lasted. The song will be missed by me.

– And just like that, the Jonas Brothers hit #1 in its third week with Sucker. They have now tied the record for the fastest rise to #1 with Adele – Hello, which first accomplished this feat on November 14, 2015. I have a feeling now that it’s taken the top spot, it’s going to be there for a long while. I really don’t see any song that’ll be able to compete with it (except for maybe Who Do You Love). I do like the song for the time being, so I’m perfectly fine with this.

– Speaking of Who Do You Love, the song has now reached the Top 5. And with that, The Chainsmokers have replaced themselves in the Top 10. And I’m cool with this because I love the song overall. Normally, I would envision this one being a #1 song at some point in time. Well, I think it still could. But because of our current #1 song, it’ll probably be difficult. We’ll see how its tenure in the Top 5 plays out.

– On the note of other Top 5 entrants, we get a re-entry from…High Hopes? Seriously? I mean, don’t get me wrong. I still like the song. But I think this is becoming a little too much for a song that’s died out elsewhere. But of course, Hits 1 just can’t seem to let go of anything related to Panic! At The Disco. Oh well.

– Also in the Top 10 is the re-entry of 7 Rings (Blech) and the arrival of Bad Liar (Yahoo!). I’m glad that Bad Liar was able to enter the Top 10 unlike Machine, which was a mess. It’s probably the best song off of Origins. I hope it ends up staying up there for a while.

Shallow’s second run on the countdown is getting off to a good start, as it has taken a massive jump into the Top 20 this week. It’s nice to have the song gain back some momentum after hitting #1 on Billboard Hot 100.

– It’s about time 2002 made that big drop. Even though it was only a small biggest drop, this was overdue for some time. I would appreciate it if the song started to leave soon.

Entrant Reviews:
– Remember Ciara? Well, she’s back. And this time, she brings us her new single titled Thinkin Bout You. This song is a jam. I love her voice in this one and the production. Everything about the song is just catchy. I’ll have more words for when it inevitably debuts.
– Next is a song that’s been around for a while. It’s from Lizzo and she brings us some Juice. This song is pretty cool. It reminds me of the throwback music that I would hear from the late 70’s and early 80’s. Her voice fits well for that type of song. I hope to see it debut soon.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Panic! At The Disco – Say Amen (Saturday Night): This was the big return of Brendon Urie and company, and their current countdown run is still going strong. I love the way it opens up, and from there everything else would get interesting. The way Brendon can hit those high notes is just mesmerizing.
Demi Lovato – Tell Me You Love Me: This is Demi’s best song from the title album. She truly shows what she is capable of here, and the lyrical content is well written. The song deserved better, but it did have a nice run on Hits 1.

Bazzi – Mine: This is the shortest song to ever debut on the countdown. There’s quite a bit I like about this, from his voice all the way down to the interesting beat.
Bad Wolves – Zombie: Ah, yes. The cover of the original song from The Cranberries. They definitely did a nice job with this one. They remind me of Three Days Grace in a way. It was nice to see them make a tribute to the late Dolores O’Ridian.

AT40: Ariana Grande (1) – Week Of March 30, 2019

Hello, fam! So this week, I’ve started working on a personal chart of mine. The place where I can do all of that is on crownnote. Feel free to check it out! I’m still trying to play catch up when it comes to my posts, albeit slowly. Hopefully, things will be back to normal soon. Right now, here’s another late post. This was not a good week overall. Biggest Fall Of The Week: Tie between Swan Song by Dua Lipa and Sicko Mode by Travis Scott featuring Drake (–4)
Biggest Rise Of The Week: Sucker by Jonas Brothers (+16)
New Entrants:
– To kick off the debuts for the week, we have LIVVIA, whose real name is Olivia Somerlyn, making her appearance on the countdown with Damn. I don’t really have much to say about this one. I like the guitar for the most part. I think it’s pretty good. I like her voice overall. Although she doesn’t particularly stand-out in any part of the song, she sounds good for much of the song. I do somewhat like the lyrics. Overall, it’s a nice song, though it’s not something I’ll come back to in the long run.
– Our second (and final debut of the week) comes from the return of Bebe Rexha with her latest single titled Last Hurrah. Her previous singles haven’t been to my liking, with Meant To Be being a poor attempt at pop country and I’m A Mess was just literally, a mess. As far as her new song goes, it’s a step up to her predecessors. I think the production is better and the instrumentation is solid. Her voice doesn’t sound like nails down a chalkboard. In fact, she sounds better in this one. The lyrics are well-written. This is a great song overall for Bebe Rexha. I do hope to see this one become a hit.

Best Debut Of The Week: Last Hurrah by Bebe Rexha

I Ain’t Gon’ Blurb ‘Til I Go To Far
– As far as our two exits go, I’m a little disappointed by 8 Letters leaving. But at the same time, it’s not a shock at all considering Why Don’t We aren’t very relevant. I consider 8 Letters to be one of their better songs. Lie by NF lasted longer than I thought it would. I was getting a little sick of the song, so it’s not something I’ll be losing sleep over.
– We have a new #1 this week and of course it belongs to 7 Rings despite the song being absolute garbage. I adore Ariana Grande as an artist. But I’ve been questioning her direction since the release of Thank U, Next. This is Ariana hitting rock bottom. I hate this song with a fiery passion. But I have a feeling it’s going to be #1 for a while. I hope something is coming to replace it soon because this is not okay.
– Jumping to #4 this week is Close To Me. When the song first debuted, I didn’t envision it going this far, but I am pleased. It’s definitely a good comeback single for Ellie Goulding. She did recently release another song titled Flux, which is even better.
– Then, we have Dancing With A Stranger entering the Top 10 this week. I’m definitely cool with this. The song just keeps getting better with each listen. It’s one of the best Sam Smith has had to offer.
Sucker having the biggest rise of the week is no surprise at all. I have a feeling the song is going to be around for a long while given that it’s doing very well elsewhere. Could this be the song that can dethrone 7 Rings like pretty soon?

Breakouts/On The Verge:

  • Out Of Love by Alessia Cara
  • Low Key by Ally Brooke featuring Tyga
  • Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At The Disco
  • Don’t Call Me Up by Mabel

  • My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light ‘Em Up) by Fall Out Boy
  • Give Me Everything by Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo and Afrojack
  • Thnks Fr The Mmrs by Fall Out Boy
  • Centuries by Fall Out Boy

With Pete Wentz hosting the AT40 countdown for that weekend, it’s not surprising to see Fall Out Boy have songs listed as extras (with the exception of one).

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
On The Loose by Niall Horan: One of the best singles off of Flicker. The groove is nice, and I like the guitar solo near the end. It’s too bad that one didn’t really take off, mainly because people were losing interest in Niall.
IDGAF by Dua Lipa: This is a solid follow-up to New Rules. I love the lyrics in this one, and vocally she sounds good in the chorus. The guitar is nice as well. One of the best off of her self-titled album.
No Excuses by Meghan Trainor: This was Meghan Trainor’s comeback single after a while. I don’t love the song lyrically, but I like the production to an extent, and Meghan doesn’t sound too bad with her voice.
