Harry Styles (6) – Week Of March 21, 2020

HS114Hello, fam! So, there really wasn’t much happening in this week’s countdown unlike last week. Thus, I don’t have much to talk about, so I’m just going to speed this through. Before we get to this week’s fresh 45, here are the songs we’re saying goodbye to this week:

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Lewis Capaldi – Someone You Loved (–7)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Lauv – Modern Loneliness (+6)

New Entrants:
Louis Tomlinson makes his return as he gives us our only debut of the week. It’s titled Don’t Let It Break Your Heart. He has been impressing me with his solo music and this song isn’t any different. Granted, it’s not quite as good as songs such as Kill My Mind, but everything about it still works for me. He’s got a good voice and I like the instrumentation. In addition, the lyrics are pretty well written and it shows how talented he is as a songwriter. Yeah, I liked what his latest single has to offer. I don’t expect it to last long, though. But we’ll see.

Don’t Let It Blurb Your Heart
– Our one exit this week is from OneRepublic with Wanted. It wasn’t too interesting from the start. I’m sure these guys had better. Even Rescue Me was pretty good and I enjoyed it for a while. But Wanted just wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m kinda glad it made its departure.

– Alright. I’m going to simply be straight up and say that Hot Girl Bummer does not belong in the Top 5. It’s really sad that we’re letting this become a hit. Even worse is the fact that it has potential to be #1 at some point. This song is a mess in every way. I can only hope that Adore You can hold at #1 for as long as it possibly can.

– In better news, I am thrilled to see Someone You Loved having the Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Kelsy Karter – Harry: I can definitely see why many loathed this one. The lyrics are kinda cringe-worthy and I’m not fond of her voice. So yeah, I’m glad that one only lasted a mere two weeks.

Madison Beer featuring Offest – Hurts Like Hell
: Yeah, nothing about the song works for me at all. I may have liked Home With You because it was catchy. This one…not so much.

LSD featuring Lil Wayne – Genius (Remix)
: Not as bad as Thunderclouds, but it is still annoying vocally. And Lil Wayne hardly adds anything to the remix. It’s proof as to why LSD as a whole didn’t work out well to my liking.

Maren Morris – GIRL
: Another self-empowerment anthem. I’ve been a fan of Maren Morris for a while and this song is no exception. Everything about the song is spot on from the vocals on down to the lyrics and production. Maren impressed me with this one.

Meghan Trainor – All The Ways
: I’ve heard this on Target commercials. It’s a fun bop with lively production and divine vocals from Meghan. Come to think of it, this and Let You Be Right are really the only good songs she’s put out lately.

YUNGBLUD featuring Halsey and Travis Barker – 11 Minutes
: I actually forgot about this song when I counted down My Top 50 Songs Of 2019. Though, I would’ve put this as my honorable mentions for the year. The collaboration worked out quite well. While not memorable, Halsey does put on a nice performance vocally and I like the instrumentation.

The only other entrant we got from last year was the re-entry from Lady Gaga featuring Bradley Cooper – Shallow, which became a massive success following its win at the 2019 Oscars.

AT40: Dua Lipa (2) – Week Of March 21, 2020

Biggest Rise Of The Week: The Box by Roddy Ricch (+6)

New Entrants:
– We’ll kick things off with hip-hop band BROCKHAMPTON making their first appearance on the countdown. They bring us their single titled Sugar. I wasn’t expecting much coming into the song. But I was impressed when I first heard it. Basically, it dives deeper into the relationship with one another. The lyrical content has some depth and it shows how good these guys are in their songwriting. I quite like the instrumentation with the guitar.  The vocals are pretty amazing and the rapping is divine here.  Overall, I’m in love with this and yet, that’s not the best debut of the week (as you will soon find out).

– Remember SZA?  She’s back!  And she teams up with Justin Timberlake in her new single titled The Other Side.  It’s definitely been a while since we’ve heard music from her.  I remember when she collaborated with Kendrick Lamar in All The Stars, which was from the Black Panther movie soundtrack.  That one was a huge hit back in 2018.  Now in 2020, here she is making her comeback.  I think this song is a bop.  SZA has a divine voice and I love the chorus.  Justin adds life to the song with his own vocals.  They have good chemistry here.  Also, the production is solid and I like the beat.  Yeah, this is a fun song overall.

– And now for the big one, in which Lady Gaga makes her return.  I’m sure everyone remembers when she starred in the movie A Star Is Born and had a soundtrack to go with it.  One of the songs from the album, Shallow, became a massive hit last year following the win at the Oscars.  This year, she give us Stupid Love.  Right off the bat, the song is divine.  I’m in love with the beat and the rest of the production is just phenomenal.  Her voice is honestly just amazing and she uses it well here.  The lyrics are awesome, which is proof of how good a songwriter she is.  This is a bop and I’m looking forward to her new album.  🙂

Best Debut Of The Week: Stupid Love by Lady Gaga

The Other Blurb
– As always, we’ll start with our exits. To begin, we bid adieu to two relatively good songs. South Of The Border was not destined to last very long following last week’s massive fall. 10,000 Hours had a good run here and it was successful elsewhere. But I thought it left a little early. I was expecting it to stick around for a while. As for Yellow Hearts, it wasn’t seriously worth caring for. So I’m glad I didn’t have to worry about it too much.

– I see that Roxanne has reached a dangerous new peak of #2. As you can tell, I’m not thrilled about this at all, so I’m really hoping Don’t Start Now can hold the #1 spot for as long as it possibly can.

– In other Top 10 news, Blinding Lights makes it’s entrance. That’s two songs from The Weeknd getting big in 2020. Again, I’m glad people are embracing him after a while.

– All of the songs from #23-#18 held their positions this week, so really there’s not a lot of action on the countdown.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Sue Me by Sabrina Carpenter: This is basically a much lesser version of Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato. The production is okay, but I’m not too fond of Sabrina’s voice and everything else is forgettable for the most part.

Sucker by Jonas Brothers: Ah yes, the big return of the Jonas Brothers. While it didn’t smash records on the AT40, it did spent 8 weeks total at the #1 spot. It’s a cute bop and while not their best, it’s something I can look back on.

Harry Styles (5) – Week Of March 14, 2020

HS113Hello fam!  I’ve had a long week and I’m about worn out.  But hey, at least I got this post out.  Well, this was definitely an interesting week.  There was plenty of movement on the countdown, which means I have quite a bit to talk about.  Before we get to this week’s fresh 45, here are the songs leaving us this week:

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Panic! At The Disco – Hey Look Ma, I Made It (2nd of 3 Weeks At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Lizzo – Good As Hell (–17)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Tie between Blackbear – Me And Ur Ghost and Fall Out Boy – Bob Dylan (+17)

New Entrants:
– We’ll start things off with newcomer Conan Gray, who makes his very first appearance on the countdown.  He brings us his single titled Maniac.  I wasn’t expecting much coming into the song.  But after the first listen, I was quite impressed with how it turned out.  Though he sounds similar to Alec Benjamin, I think he has a better voice.  I do think he is a talented singer and he shows it in the chorus.  But where the song really catches my attention is the production.  I adore the beat and the groove is nice.  Overall, he made a good first impression here.  We’ll see if it ends up sticking around.

– Up next is the long-awaited return of a certain act that I’ve been anticipating for quite some time. Demi Lovato has her comeback single debuting straight to the countdown in the form of I Love Me.  I’ve been a fan of Demi and her music for much of the past decade, what with songs such as Heart Attack, Give Your Heart A Break, and Cool For The Summer being one of my favorites.  So naturally, I have high expectations for how her future music would turn out.  I Love Me doesn’t live up to those songs, much to my disappointment.  She has a good voice and in the majority of her songs, she uses it well.  But here, she doesn’t really shine.  Her vocals are fine, but the chorus leaves a lot to be desired.  I’m not fond of the weird production and there isn’t much to the beat.  I do question some of the lyrics here.  I know Demi is a good songwriter because her older singles were a work of art.  But she doesn’t show too much effort as the lyrics are somewhat lacking in depth.  Yeah, I find this only to be okay.  My opinion may change.  But it’s not what I was hoping for in comeback single.

– Oh boy…next we have more of Justin Bieber with a song that’s even worse than Yummy.  He gives us his collaboration with Quavo in IntentionsJustin Bieber has not impressed me with any of his music he has released so far this year.  I’ve already talked about Yummy and how terrible it was.  Honestly, I was thinking he couldn’t get any worse.  But holy shit, I was so wrong.  Yeah, this song is fucking garbage.  We have a trap production that is shit and the beat is even worse.  Looking at the lyrics, he basically tries to impress a girl with compliments.  But honestly, he really should’ve taken a different approach because the lines are cringe-worthy as fuck.  And don’t even get me started on Bieber himself.  Why in the hell would he do a Chris Brown impersonation with no personality to speak of?  It just doesn’t work.  And Quavo doesn’t help the song in any way at all.  Honestly, this is just a fucking mess all around.  And I’m really hoping it does not become a hit, because if it does my reaction will NOT be pretty.

– And finally, we have more of Niall Horan with No Judgement.  Unlike Justin BieberNiall has impressed me with his latest music.  Nice To Meet Ya is a great song and while No Judgement doesn’t top that, it’s still pretty good for what it is.  Sure, the production isn’t quite as divine as its predecessor.  But it’s got good instrumentation and the beat is nice.  The lyrical content is solid and it shows how good Niall is as a songwriter.  He just recently released Heartbreak Weather, and I’ll be listening to that new album of his.  It’s a nice song and I’m glad Niall made something worthwhile.

Best Debut Of The Week: Conan Gray – Maniac

We Don’t Have To Blurb Nothin’
– As always, we’ll begin with our exits.  To start, 10/10 was straight up underwhelming.  It had no business being here in the first place (and by the way, this song is still a 3/10 if you ask me).  Also, we must celebrate as we bid adieu to Who Do You Love!  It’s about time!  That one was long overdue.  I’m glad that’s over with!  As for the other two exits, both Lover and Señorita were two of my favorite songs of last year (#3 and #2, respectively) and I enjoyed them both.  They each had a good run on the countdown.  Farewell to Lover and Señorita.  They will both be missed by me very much.

Lose You To Love Me and Wanted both dropped down to the Bottom 5 this week.  The former I enjoyed a lot and it saddens me that it’s time is coming to an end.  As for the latter, it was not very interesting to begin with and it continues to fade on me.  OneRepublic has had much better in the past.  Wanted doesn’t top their previous singles unfortunately.

– Speaking of drops that I’m also saddened about, we have Good As Hell taking the Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week.  I’m thankful this did well on the countdown and it was another massive hit for Lizzo.  Heck, it even made the Hits 1 Year-End list for 2019 despite this being more of a 2020 hit.  So that’s quite impressive.

– Speaking of Selena Gomez, Rare took quite a big drop this week.  A bit surprising, but I don’t have any complaints since it’s not that good of a song.  We’ll see if it ends up rebounding.

– It’s about damn time Someone You Loved FINALLY dropped out of the Top 20 altogether!  I’ve been waiting for that drop and I’m glad it finally happened.  We’ll see the end of this song soon enough.

Graveyard dropping big isn’t much of a surprise since the song virtually died out elsewhere.  It’s one of Halsey’s best solo songs since Bad At Love and I do wish it deserved better elsewhere.  But I’m glad it did quite well on Hits 1 because they stan Halsey.  Meanwhile, You Should Be Sad takes its place as it jumps into the Top 20.  It’s a fine listen, but it’s not exactly memorable.  Still, her attempt at going country is a lot better than her attempt at rock (Nightmare).

Me And Ur Ghost and Bob Dylan both had the Biggest Jump Of The Week.  I’m happy about one and the other is straight up bad.  You can tell which one I’m referring to.

– Looks like Billie Eilish hasn’t lost her momentum as Everything I Wanted arrives in the Top 10.  I’m pretty pleased with how it’s doing so far on the charts.  I’m glad Billie is still getting recognition at this moment in time.

– It’s really nice to see Don’t Start Now hitting a new peak at #2!  This is her highest-peaking single on Hits 1.  I’m hoping this will get a #1 spot at some point in time.  But I don’t mind Adore You getting another week at #1.

Entrant Reviews:
– Up first we have newcomer Pink Sweat$ with the single 17.  Here’s a fun fact: he was born just 10 days after my birthday!  That’s some cool stuff!  Anyway, as far as the song goes, I think it’s okay.  I quite like what the song is going for.  But I’m not wild on how it was executed.  Sure, his vocals are decent.  But there’s not much in terms of the production.  Yeah, this isn’t quite my cup of tea.

– Next, we have another newcomer.  Her name is Ashe and she brings us Moral Of The Story.  I don’t have too much to say about this one.  I think it’s a pretty interesting song.  I quite like the girl’s voice and the lyrical content is nice.  I won’t call it great, but I like it enough to put it in green.

– We have collaboration between Powfu and Beabadoobee with Coffee For Your Head.  To put it simply, this song straight up sucks.  I’m not sure what these guys are going for.  The production is terrible and I don’t like Powfu’s rapping.  And my goodness, I cannot stand the backing vocals.  Yeah, this blows.  NEXT!

– We have more of K-Pop band Monsta X with their latest single You Can’t Hold My Heart.  I think this is one of their weaker songs.  Their vocals are fine.  But the rest of the song isn’t exactly memorable.  It’s a decent song, though and I’ll give them that.

– Finally, The Chainsmokers make their return once more, and they give us an interesting collaboration between them and the band Blink-182 in P.S. I Hope You’re Happy.  I quite like this for the most part.  It’s better than Push Your Luck for the most part.  Their vocals are pretty good and I like the production here.  We’ll see if it debuts soon.

Jonas Brothers – Sucker: Ah yes, the boy band’s big return.  It made history by breaking the record for highest debut ever (at #7) and would eventually spent 13 record-breaking weeks at #1.  It’s a cute bop, and I’m kinda glad that it became their biggest hit.

Biggest Rise Of The Week: Say So by Doja Cat (+14)

New Entrants:
– Up first is a newcomer from Kosovo.  His name is Regard and he brings his song titled Ride It.  Believe it or not, this is actually the cover of the song from Jay Sean.  I kinda liked it initially, but I’ve been slowly losing interest in with each and every additional listen.  I think the production is too generic for my tastes and nothing else about the song is interesting.  That’s really all I have to say about it.  I’m not much of a fan.

Sam Smith makes his return not long after the departure of How Do You Sleep?.  He gives us his newest single titled To Die For. As you may recall, he gave us Dancing With A Stranger with Normani, which I absolutely adore and thus, it would eventually go on to become my #1 favorite song of 2019.  Of course, To Die For isn’t nearly as good as that song.  But I still enjoy it for what it is.  Sam has a pretty good voice and he uses it well here.  I quite like the lyrical content here and the production is solid.  Yeah, this is something worthwhile.  We’ll see if it ends up becoming another hit for Sam.

Best Debut Of The Week: To Die For by Sam Smith

Baby, Can You Stop The Blurbs From Falling
– We bid adieu to two songs, though I can’t say both of them will be missed by me.  Highest In The Room wasn’t very good so I’m glad it left a little early.  Then, there’s Panini, which I kinda liked in a way and I thought it was pretty decent.  But nothing that I’ll be revisiting in the long run.

– Looks like South Of The Border won’t be with us for very long as it took a massive drop out of the Top 20.  Meanwhile, we still have songs such as I Don’t Care which I would appreciate if it left as soon as possible.

Say So ends up having a big jump this week for whatever reason unbeknownst to me.  I honestly don’t get the appeal to the song.  It’s so incredibly generic.  I don’t need this becoming a hit.

Adore You by Harry Styles has entered the Top 10.  I didn’t quite envision this song becoming a suprise success.  But I’m happy that it got this far.  It’s already #1 on Hits 1 for four weeks straight.  We’ll see if the same rings true on the AT40 in the coming weeks.

Heartless is now in the Top 5.  It’s good to see The Weeknd getting a hit as we start the new decade.  Looks like the people are welcoming him back with open arms (no reference to Journey).

– It’s about time Don’t Start Now took over the #1 spot!  I’ve been waiting for Dua Lipa to get another huge hit since New Rules in 2018.  It’s honestly an divine comeback for her and it has become a huge favorite of mine!  Hopefully, we’ll see a repeat of 2018 when New Rules became the #1 song of the year.  I can’t wait to see what her album has in store.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
365 by Zedd featuring Katy Perry: An interesting collaboration if you will.  I don’t quite adore it as much as I adore his recent singles like The Middle and Happy Now.  But I still enjoy it, mostly because of Katy Perry.  Her voice is still divine and everything else works for me from a production standpoint.

I’ve Been Waiting by Lil’ Peep featuring iLoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy: Another interesting collaboration.  But this one didn’t quite held up well for me in the long run.  Patrick Stump certainly makes the song tolerable, and the beat is fine I guess.

Bad Liar by Imagine Dragons: Imagine Dragons’s last stand.  This is easily the best Origins has had to offer.  It reminds me a lot of Demons.  The lyrical content and Dan Reynolds’s voice is what makes this memorable.

Harry Styles (4) – Week Of March 7, 2020

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Jonas Brothers – What A Man Gotta Do (+5)

New Entrants:
– So, we have four debuts this week to start the month of March.  First, we have newcomer Trevor Daniel with his single Falling.  It’s basically another breakup song about one looking back on their relationship with one another and we’ve seen a lot of those.  In terms of how the song goes, I’m not really much of a fan.  The lyrics don’t have much to offer.  They lack in depth in some areas.  His voice is not unique in any way.  He lacks the personality he needs to be interesting.  The production is okay, I guess.  But that’s really the only good thing I can say about this one.  Overall, it’s forgettable and I can’t envision myself coming back to this in a year or so.

– Up next we have more of Blackbear (ugh) with Me & Ur Ghost.  Those of you who followed my blog know much I absolutely despise Hot Girl Bummer, which is easily one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard in my entire life.  Me & Ur Ghost is only a little bit of a step up from that.  I do kinda dig the production and the beat in a way.  But my problem is that his voice still sucks ass and the rest of the song isn’t interesting.  Hopefully, it won’t be around for very long.  NEXT!

– We have more of Post Malone.  He collaborates with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott in Take What You Want.  This is a song that I didn’t envision would debut at all, especially given that it has virtually died down elsewhere.  But I’m glad it did because it’s one of the best Hollywood’s Bleeding has to offer.  I definitely like the production here.  These guys sound pretty good with their verses, especially Ozzy Osbourne.  He’s the best thing about the song overall.  These artists have good chemistry.  I’m surprised this one ended up debuting, but I’m happy.  I doubt it’ll stick around for too long.

– And last but not least, we have the big return of Lady Gaga.  Of course, we’ve seen her last year when she starred in the movie A Star Is Born, and she released the soundtrack which featured songs such as Shallow, which became a massive hit following the win for Best Original Song at the Oscars.  This year, she brings us Stupid Love.  It didn’t take long for her to make her comeback to the music scene, but it was definitely worth the wait because I’m in love with the song.  It looks like she is returning to her pop roots here.  She basically tells a story about wanting love with someone.  The production is honestly just amazing.  I’m in love with the her voice and I adore the chorus overall.  Lady Gaga has always been a good songwriter and this song is further proof.  The lyrical content is divine.  Honestly, this song is just a bop and it’s nice to see her make a comeback.  I’m anticipating her new album any day now.  I’ll be waiting.

Best Debut Of The Week: Lady Gaga – Stupid Love

I Want Your Stupid Blurbs
– We’ll begin with our exits.  To start, Fight was just another awful attempt at making a country song with trap elements, so good riddance to that.  What Am I was a nice song overall, but it didn’t really stick with me.  Then, we have Truth Hurts, which was a favorite of mine and I’m glad Lizzo was able to get a massive hit.  Finally, If I Can’t Have You is officially no more.  Shawn continues to impress me with his music and this one was no different.  I enjoyed the song while it lasted.  I’ll definitely revisit that song from time to time (as well as Truth Hurts, which will be missed by me as well).

– Not much to talk about here, so I’ll just speed it through.  How Do You Sleep? and 10/10 both made their way down to the Bottom 5.  I’m glad 10/10 ended up flopping and didn’t take off elsewhere.  How Do You Sleep? had a nice run and stuck around for while.  It won’t be long until both of those songs end up leaving.

What A Man Gotta Do jumped into the Top 3 rather quickly.  I had a feeling this would happen given that Hits 1 still love the Jonas Brothers.  Could this possibly be another #1 for these guys in the future?  We’ll have to find out.

Hit-Bound:

  • Sam Smith – To Die For
  • SZA featuring Justin Timberlake – The Other Side (DEBUT)

  • Meghan Trainor featuring Nicki Minaj – Nice To Meet Ya
  • Louis Tomlinson – Don’t Let It Break Your Heart
  • The Black Eyed Peas featuring J Balvin – RITMO (Bad Boys For Life) (DEBUT)

Entrant Reviews:
– In the world of Hit-Bound, we have four new songs here.  Up first is the return of SZA and Justin Timberlake who team up with each other in their newest single titled The Other Side.  Right off the bat, this is definitely a bop.  I adore SZA’s voice and I’m in love with the beat.  Justin made a good contribution.  I’ll save most of my words for when it debuts.

– Next, we have new hip-hop band BROCKHAMPTON with Sugar.  I enjoy the production with the guitar and these guys sound really good.  Their vocals are very unique and they mesh well together. I think this is really cool stuff.  They impressed me with this one.

– Then, we have another new band named Surfaces with their single Sunday Best.  I’m going to be straight up and say this sucks.  I don’t like their vocals and the production is very weird (and not in a good way).  This is definitely not what I would call “Sunday Best”.  I’ll have more on this when it debuts.

– Finally, we get the return of The Black Eyed Peas, and they collaborate with J Balvin in RITMO (Bad Boys For Life).  This song has been around for a while.  I was not a fan of this one when it first dropped and my opinion hasn’t changed.  I’m not fond of the miminalistic beat and these guys don’t really sound good with their verses.  So yeah, this is not good for the most part.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Lauv featuring Troye Sivan – I’m So Tired: It’s another miss for Lauv, who hasn’t really impressed me with his music.  His voice is heavily drowned in auto-tune and the chorus is so repetitive.  And Troye, what were you thinking collaborating with this guy?  And I say that as someone who liked quite a few of your songs.

Post Malone – Wow.: This song is undesirable, mostly because there’s virtually nothing to the production.  He’s done much worse with songs such as Psycho.  But this is just not a fun listen for me.

Grandson – Apologize: Probably the best thing I can say about the song is the instrumentation.  I like the production here.  But his voice is just not very good which brings the song down for me.

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: The Chainsmokers featuring Kelsea Ballerini – This Feeling (7th And Final Week At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Maroon 5 – Memories (–17)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: All Time Low – Some Kind Of Disaster (+21)

New Entrants:
– On this Leap Day Weekend, we get the return of Lauv with his new single titled Modern Loneliness.  I wasn’t looking forward to hearing any more from him.  But alas, here he is again.  I’ve not been impressed with what he has had to offer over the years.  Modern Loneliness is really no different compared to his older singles.  This is basically a piano ballad and I’m usually a sucker for those.  But Lauv just doesn’t have a good voice overall.  I’m not a fan of how unenthusiastic he sounds throughout the song and everything else, even the piano leaves a lot to be desired.  I really don’t have much more to say about this one except it’s not good.  Hopefully, it doesn’t last very long here.

Modern Blurbs
– Speaking of songs which didn’t last long, we have The Chainsmokers – Push My Luck.  I actually liked this quite a bit and I thought this would have a respectable tenure on Hits 1 much like their recent singles before it.  But their luck has just run out (see what I did here).  Then again, I’m not complaining since I probably won’t remember it in the long run.

– Meanwhile, we still have Who Do You Love here.  I’m sure not a lot of people support this song anymore, and neither do I.

– On the note of mediocrity, both 10/10 and Fight took some massive drops this week.  The former is just straight up mediocre (more like 3/10 if you ask me), and the latter is very annoying and has no business being here.  Luckily, we won’t be seeing them for too long

Memories had the biggest drop this week, which is also good news.  Thankfully this didn’t reach #1 on this countdown and it only peaked at #10.  Hopefully, it’ll end up leaving soon.  Even better is the fact that it just got dethroned from the #1 spot by Circles on the AT40 this week.

– I’m not all that thrilled about If The World Was Ending jumping big into the Top 20.  This song is slightly getting less interesting with each and every additional listen.  Their unenthusiastic vocals aren’t helping make the song any better.

Some Kind Of Disaster as expected would take the Biggest Jump Of The Week into the Top 15.  I guess Hits 1 is starting to show more love for All Time Low, which I’m cool with.

– I’m not even going to comment on the fact that Roxanne enter the Top 10 despite the song being a auto-tuned mess.  I’ll never get the appeal to the song whatsoever.  And the asinine lyrics aren’t helping at all.  Seriously, stop this madness.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Lil Peep featuring iLoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy – I’ve Been Waiting: Not much I can say about this one.  Production-wise it’s okay, but not memorable.  Patrick Stump was probably the best thing about the song.

Imagine Dragons – Bad Liar: Imagine Dragons’s last stand.  Aside from Natural, this is one of (if not) the only good songs off of Origins.  It bears a striking resemblance to Demons, which was also a favorite of mine.

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: The Chainsmokers featuring Kelsea Ballerini – This Feeling (6th of 7 Weeks At #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Selena Gomez – Lose You To Love Me (–17)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Taylor Swift – The Man (+17)

New Entrants:
– We’re going to start things off with more of The Weeknd here, and he gives us another new single in the form of Blinding Lights.  I was impressed with how Heartless turned out when it was first released and I still enjoy that song.  But after hearing Blinding Lights in its entirety, I find this to be even better than its predecessor.  The 80’s vibe here is just awesome.  I’m in love with the production overall and his voice is just divine.  I know I’ve been saying this quite a lot, but he reminds me of the late Michael Jackson from a vocal standpoint.  So yeah, I’m enjoying this and I hope it becomes successful.

– Up next, we have newcomer JP Saxe, and he teams up with Julia Michaels in their latest single in the form of If The World Was Ending.  I came into this song with pretty decent expectations hoping it would turn out to be something interesting.  But it just didn’t quite work out for me.  There’s really nothing interesting about the song.  I think the piano is okay.  But I’m not too fond of their vocal performance.  Julia’s voice isn’t very good here and JP has moments where he sounded okay, but ultimately he didn’t really shine in any other part of the song.  Then, you have the lyrics here, which leaves a lot to be desired.  Overall, I’m not much of a fan and I can picture myself putting this in red soon.

– Finally, we have another single from Selena Gomez with Rare, which is the title track for her album.  I was pretty mixed with Selena Gomez’s album for the most part.  There were quite a few songs I liked from her (Lose You To Love Me being one of them), and some that were pretty bad (Look At Her Now).  But when it comes to Rare, it kinda lands somewhere in the middle.  I think there are moments where Selena sounds pretty good and she put on a decent performance vocals-wise.  But the production is pretty underwhelming in some aspects.  I feel like more could’ve been done in that department.  Yeah, I think it’s okay.  But it’s not something I was hoping for in the follow-up to her predecessor (Which took a big drop this week, and I’ll talk about that in just a bit).

Best Debut Of The Week: The Weeknd – Blinding Lights

Blinding Blurbs
– It’s about damn time we bid adieu to the mess that is of Yummy.  This was Justin Bieber’s comeback single as a solo artist and I’m glad it ended up flopping.  It’s certainly a candidate to appear in My Bottom 10 Songs of the year.  I Hate (Love) LA became forgettable after a while.  I’m interested to see what else Hot Chelle Rae can come up with.  But that one just wasn’t doing it for me.  The only exit that I’ll really miss is Raising Hell.  I would’ve loved to see that one become a hit.  But of course, it did not happen.  That pretty much makes me sad that it had to leave so soon.

Hit-Bound:

  • Trevor Daniel – Falling
  • Alec Benjamin – Oh My God (DEBUT)
  • Dua Lipa – Physical
  • Conan Gray – Maniac (DEBUT)

  • Harry Styles – Watermelon Sugar

  • Justin Bieber featuring Quavo – Intentions
  • Lauv – Modern Loneliness (DEBUT)
  • Meghan Trainor featuring Nicki Minaj – Nice To Meet Ya
  • Blackbear – Me & Ur Ghost

Entrant Reviews:
Hits 1 has picked up on another single from Alec Benjamin and Oh My God, it’s pretty much what I expected from the first listen.  It’s quite a bit better than some of his music.  His vocals are still a concern.  But everything else worked out okay both lyrically and musically.  Overall, it’s a fine enough song.

– Next, we have newcomer Conan Gray with his single Maniac.  I think this is pretty cool for the most part.  I quite like the production here and the guy’s voice is fine.  It’s pretty upbeat all around.  We’ll see if it ends up debuting soon.

– We have more of 5 Seconds Of Summer here, and they give us Old Me.  I was pretty split on this initially.  There are parts where I like their voice, but I feel like the production isn’t quite up to par in my book.  I much prefer their older singles such as Jet Black Heart and some others off their older albums.  Old Me is okay, but I doubt it’ll stick with me in the long run.

– Finally, we have more of Lauv and he gives us his Modern Loneliness.  I have not been impressed with what Lauv has had to offer recently and this song is basically no exception.  I don’t really like his voice here and the rest of the song leaves a lot to be desired.  Overall, not a fan.

New Entrants:
– To begin our new round of debuts as we start the month of March, we have newcomer Doja Cat with her single Say So.  This debuted about a couple months ago on the Hits 1 Weekend Countdown, where I gave my review on the song.  I initially found it to be simply mediocre and now I find myself not liking this song at all.  Doja’s voice is just not very good.  Here, she sounds unenthusiastic and she doesn’t shine in any part of the song.  The production leaves a lot to be desired outside of the nice groove.  Yeah, I’m not impressed by this overall.

– For our second (and final) debut of this week, we have another newcomer in the form of Roddy Ricch with The Box.  The song has been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a while now, and the AT40 is a little late to the party in picking this one up.  As far as the song goes, I’m not that huge of a fan.  But it’s a lot better than our other debut.  I do find his voice okay here and the trap production is decent.  But I just don’t think it’s all that memorable.  I find some of the lyrics to be a little off.  Given the success of the song, I do think it’ll stick around for a while.  Overall, it’s a pretty decent song and I’m glad it kept Yummy by Justin Bieber at bay by holding on to #1 earlier this year.  But it’s not that amazing nor is it anything special.  I feel it’s just another song to me.

Best Debut Of The Week: The Box by Roddy Ricch

Dreamblurber
– Speaking of Yummy by Justin Bieber, it’s about time that song left the countdown this week.  Hallelujah.  Normally, I would celebrate it’s departure.  But honestly, I’d much rather listen to that song than its successor.  As for Bad Guy by Billie Eilish, I liked that song overall and I was genuinely happy that it was a chart success.  Farewell, Bad Guy.  You will be missed by me.

– On the note of Billie Eilish, her current representation Everything I Wanted just made its way into the Top 10.  It’s another good song for Billie and I’m glad her momentum is still going strong.  And it kicked Someone You Loved out of the Top 10 for good, which is another plus.  🙂

– Of course, Intentions had to make the big jump this week even though the song is an absolute mess all around.  I’m really hoping this ends up becoming another flop because the last thing we need in 2020 is this song becoming a hit.  My reaction will not be pretty if that happens.

– Speaking of Justin Bieber, his collaboration with Dan + Shay in 10,000 Hours is likely on its way out following that big drop this week.  It had a nice run overall and I still like this song.  It’s one of the best things Justin has done this year so far.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Who Do You Love by The Chainsmokers featuring 5 Seconds Of Summer: I remember liking this at first.  But it got quite annoying after a while, mostly because the drop.  I’m sure these guys have done worse before.  But I can’t deny that this was overrated, especially on Hits 1 where it became the #1 song of last year.

Please Me by Cardi B featuring Bruno Mars: Their second collaboration together.  Although not nearly as good as Finesse, I still like some things about the song, mainly Bruno’s voice.

Harry Styles (1) – Week Of February 15, 2020

New Entrants:
– So, Lover has pretty much died down elsewhere.  But of course, that doesn’t mean Taylor Swift is going to stop, because she brings us another new single from that album, titled The Man.  I fell in love with the majority of what Lover has had to offer (with the exception of You Need To Calm Down, which thankfully left this week, and we’ll get into that in a little bit).  Soon You’ll Get Better, Cruel Summer, and of course the title track are some of my favorites from her album.  But I find The Man to be pretty good for the most part.  I like Taylor’s voice here, and that’s usually her strength in the majority of her music.  But it’s really the production that gets me here.  I think it’s nicely crafted and I like the lyrics as well.  Is it her best?  Not really.  But The Man is something that is enjoyable and I wouldn’t object to seeing this become another hit for Taylor.

– It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the band All Time Low.  A couple years ago, they had Last Young Renegade which I loved despite it spending a mere four weeks on the countdown.  Fast forward to 2020, and here they are making their return with their comeback single…and it’s Some Kind Of Disaster.  Well, not really.  The title of the song does not speak for itself because when I first listened to the song, I was quite impressed with how it turned out.  First off, the production.  I love the rock vibe here and they did well with their use of instruments.  They haven’t lost a step there.  The vocals we get from them sound pretty good as well, and I like the lyrics.  Overall, it’s a nice comeback for these guys.  I’m hoping it can stick around for a long while.

Best Debut Of The Week: Taylor Swift – The Man

I Can’t Stop Loving Blurbs
– Neither of those exits will really be missed by me.  It’s about time we bid adieu to You Need To Calm Down.  That one was never to my liking, mostly because of the chorus and the underwhelming production.  Taylor can do better than this.  And Walking was not very interesting to say the least.  I didn’t think any of the artists impressed me in that song, so I’m kinda glad it left.

– This week marks one year ago that Who Do You Love debuted on the countdown.  I’m not surprised it’s been around for that long because of Hits 1’s love for 5 Seconds Of Summer.  I do hope it ends up leaving soon.

– On the note of The Chainsmokers, Push My Luck takes a big drop all of a sudden.  I still quite like the song for the most part.  But it’s not much compared to what these guys have done in the past.  I have a feeling it won’t last very long with us.

– Here, we have Say So making its unwelcome entry into the Top 20.  I don’t really see the appeal to this song.  It’s so painfully generic.  Her voice sounds pretty bad and everything else leaves a lot to be desired.  I hope it doesn’t stay in the Top 20 for too long.

– After spending two weeks in the Top 5, Lose You To Love Me is right back to square one.  I had hopes that this would become #1, but that did not happen and I don’t really see it happening ever, especially now since it’s dying down elsewhere.  Feels like it’s been a while since we’ve seen Selena at #1 on the countdown (Fact: her last countdown song to hit #1 was Love You Like A Love Song back in 2012).

Hot Girl Bummer having the Biggest Jump Of The Week is a big fat no.  Stop this madness.  Now.  I honestly don’t know who the hell supports this.  It has no business being near the Top 10, let along become a hit.  -_-

– I’m fine with seeing South Of The Border in the Top 10, and What A Man Gotta Do jumped in that region pretty quickly.  It looks like the Jonas Brothers may end up having another hit under their belt.  But we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.

– Finally, we have a cool new #1 song in the form of Adore You.  It’s Harry Styles’s first-ever #1 as a solo artist on this countdown.  I have no problem with this because the song is divine.  I’m so glad this is become somewhat of a hit elsewhere.  I wouldn’t mind seeing this spent a few more weeks at #1.

Entrant Reviews:
– With How Do You Sleep? finally dying down, Sam Smith brings us another new single in its stead.  It’s titled To Die For.  My initial reaction was pretty good at the first listen.  While I still prefer Dancing With A Stranger by a mile, I still think To Die For is a pretty solid song.  It reminds me of some of the singles from The Lonely Hour.  He has the type of voice that fits well here and the lyrics are pretty good.  I’ll be looking forward to seeing that one debut soon.

Niall Horan replaces himself with his newer single in the form of No Judgement. I quite like what the song has to offer here.  It’s different compared to some of his music.  I think the production pulls me in.  Niall has been impressing me with his music lately.

Khalid replaces himself as well, and he collaborates with Disclosure in Know Your Worth.  They did work together in their biggest hit in the form of Talk (despite Disclosure being uncredited).  That song did not work out to my liking.  Know Your Worth is an improvement in most ways.  The production is better and I like the beat here.  Khalid sounds good with his voice.  Yeah, I’m quite digging this song.

– Up next, we get more of The Weeknd with the follow-up to Heartless, titled Blinding Lights.  Everything about this song is just perfection.  I like the 80’s vibe here and his voice fits very well here.  I’ll save most of my words for when it debuts.

– Following that, we have newcomer Trevor Daniel with his single titled Falling.  I don’t have much to say about this one.  What I got out of it when I first listened to this was that it’s kinda forgettable.  The production is okay here, but I’m not huge on his voice.  And the lyrics leave something to be desired.  Yeah, I’m mixed on this overall.

– Hooray! More Justin Bieber, and guess what?  He gives us a song that is worse than Yummy, titled Intentions.  I don’t see any appeal to this.  The production is absolute crap in every way.  Once more, he tries to do a Chris Brown impersonation with no personality and he fails miserably.  But Quavo’s verse is just garbage.  I just cannot stand his voice.  And don’t even get me started on the lyrics.  Those who dislike this song can explain it better than I can.  I simply cannot get behind this at all.  Justin needs to step up his game big time.  Honestly, I’m sticking with 10,000 Hours and Purpose than what he’s got going on right now.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
The Chainsmokers featuring 5 Seconds Of Summer – Who Do You Love: Hits 1’s #1 song for 2019.  I liked this at first, but it got on my nerves after a while.  The drop has become quite irritating.  I’m sure these guys have done much worse.  But I can’t with this anymore.

Travis Scott featuring Drake – Sicko Mode: Do I even need to explain this?  It’s the worst single off of Astroworld and I don’t think anyone can argue with me otherwise.  I don’t like the verses, the production is crap and the vocal effects are unnecessary.  Yeah, this did not deserve to be as big as it was.  Good thing it didn’t last very long on Hits 1.

Sabrina Carpenter – Sue Me: This is basically reminds me of Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato, except it’s slightly worse.  While I think the production is fine, Sabrina’s voice bought the song down quite a bit.  Yeah, it’s pretty forgettable for the most part.

Sam Smith featuring Normani – Dancing With A Stranger: My favorite song from Sam Smith, and he had a little help with the best single from Fifth Harmony.  Everything about the song works well to perfection.  I’m glad this was a huge hit last year.

Jake Miller – Wait For You: While he has a good voice and he uses it pretty well, I can’t quite get behind the production.  It’s a little too weird for my liking, especially in the chorus.  Not bad, but it’s not something I’ll look back on in a year or so.

Ariana Grande – 7 Rings: My #1 least favorite song of 2019, and for a very good reason.  Between Ariana barely singing, the god-awful trap production, and a poor interpolation from The Sound Of Music, everything about the song is a mess.  This was basically the bottom falling out in Ariana’s music.  She can do MUCH better.

– Yippee.  Justin Bieber has another new single, this time collaborating with Quavo in Intentions.  I have not been impressed with what Justin Bieber has had to offer so far this year (outside of his collaboration with Dan + Shay in 10,00 Hours).  He gave us Yummy which was terrible and now his latest single is even worse.  I can go on and on about how god-awful Yummy is and how bad it sounds.  But at least that one I can laugh at.  Intentions, however, is a much different story.  Right off the bat, the trap production is just terrible and the beat is no good.  The lyrics are even more cringe-worthy than that of its predecessor.  It’s basically him trying to impress a girl and failing miserably.  Quavo adds virtually nothing to the song whatsoever with his shitty verse and very little personality to speak of.  And here we go with Bieber trying to make an awful Chris Brown impression with no personality at all.  Simply put, this is just a mess from top to bottom and I’m hoping this dies off fast, because my reaction will not be pretty if it ends up becoming another hit.

– Now onto the much better debut of the week.  It comes from Khalid and he collaborates with EDM duo Disclosure in their new single called Know Your Worth.  They have previously worked together in its predecessor Talk, which I wasn’t a fan of for the most part.  But Know Your Worth is a step up from that in most ways.  Disclosure did much better in the production department with the drop and the solid beat, something that was lacking in Talk.  Khalid has proven himself to be a great vocalist once more.  I feel like he’s been getting better ever since he went mainstream.  While the song itself isn’t memorable in the long run, I still think it’s pretty good song overall.  These guys have managed to impress me with this one.

– Finally, we have more Selena Gomez with her latest single in the form of Rare, the title track for the album.  I did listen to her new album which recently came out and I had mixed feelings about it.  There were some good songs, and some not-so-good songs.  Rare pretty much sits in the middle, at least when it comes to my opinion.  Selena sounds pretty good with her vocals.  But the production lacks something in some aspects and it’s not too interesting to say the least.  And the lyrics leave quite a bit to be desired.  It’s a fine song overall, but I can’t picture myself coming back to this in about a year or so.

Best Debut Of The Week: Know Your Worth by Khalid featuring Disclosure

Know Your Blurbs
– As far as our exits go, Make It Right wasn’t very good for the most part, and Goodbyes was due to leave for some time.  As for Teeth, I did recently started to come around to this and it would’ve been nice to see it become another hit for the band.  But it was not to be.

Maroon 5’s reign at the top thankfully didn’t last very long as Circles takes back the #1 spot yet again.  This song just continues to stay strong on the charts.  Hopefully it can hold the #1 spot as long as it possibly can.  If we can get Don’t Start Now to #1, that would be great.

Yummy took a big drop this week, which is good.  I’m glad this song actually ended up flopping on this countdown.  Hopefully, it’s successor follows suit.  Like I said in the review, I haven’t been impressed with what Justin has had to offer so far.

– I’m not thrilled by the big jump from Cuz I Love You.  The song just doesn’t appeal to me, mostly because of Lizzo’s voice where shes sounds pretty bad with the yelling.  I do hope it can die out soon, but I doubt it.

Songs That Debuted This Week One Year Ago:
Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored by Ariana Grande: A step up from 7 Rings, but not by much.  While Ariana’s voice is better, I don’t like the message that it sends and the trap percussion doesn’t helps matters.  I know Ariana is capable of much better.

Hurts Like Hell by Madison Beer featuring Offset: A poor follow-up to Home With You, which I thought was pretty solid overall.  This one just doesn’t work for me.  I’m not fond of the production and Offest hardly adds anything to the song.

Undrunk by FLETCHER: I was impressed with what FLETCHER did with her fist ever single.  The lyrics are relatable and I really like her voice overall.  Plus, the production and the beat are just divine.  Too bad this didn’t end up becoming a bigger hit that I wanted it to be.
